"Everything about this hotel is first class. The warm welcome and service throughout was exceptional. The bedroom was perfect, very thoughtfully designed, beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed, great shower and toiletries. Dinner was incredible; a great balanced menu with dishes to wow and impress, whilst also traditional favourites with a high quality twist. Loads of local, seasonal produce and flavours, great wine list, stunning presentation and VERY tasty. Served in gorgeous surroundings. The hotel is stunning; oozing character, history and stories, set in wonderful grounds. Didn’t want to leave, and definitely hope to return."

"Before I say anything, the lovely man at the reception was outstanding, polite and willing to help. This comment is about the management of the hotel. I booked through trip and paid in advance but they did not have this information upon arrival. There was an invoice for £40 whereas I had paid £50 through Trip. The man at receiption quickly waved the new invoice. The hotel is very run down. The room was in an apalling state. Although the bedsheets and towels were clean the overall state of the room was awful. The drains were clocked, the shower screen broken, there were stains everywhere. I understand it’s a very cheap hotel but there should be a minimum of respect to the customers. There was free breakfast which was okay. Some of the other customers were quite loud and roudy."

"The experience staying in this hotel depends on what room you're given. I'd booked a superior room for £120 a night. The first room we were given 101 (ironically) was awful. Blood stains on carpet, dirty curtains and run down. It should not be offered to anyone! We changed to room 110 which was just about acceptable for the price. Housekeeping wasn't great though. The staff were mostly friendly but I suspect the first guy in reception didn't care what room we had. I booked it months ago. He initially said they were full when we asked to change but then he found one. The hotel smells oddly. There are plug in fresheners everywhere. Apparently it was closed for a period of time & used to house asylum seekers. It needs money putting in to get it to where it should be. It's a shame as you can see it was once grand. I wouldn't recommend it or return."

"We had a wonderful couple of nights here in a two floor duplex suite. The room was ideal for our needs so our toddler could sleep upstairs on an evening whilst we were downstairs. Lots of amenities in the room including tv with apps, bath robes, rain shower, wonderful selection of coffee pods and biscuits. Nice and quiet. The bed was very soft, you just sank into it. Couple of overly lumpy pillows that need replacing. The service at the bar and restaurant was excellent, very friendly attentive staff. Would just note I ordered the chicken and bacon club sandwich one evening and felt the bacon may have been from breakfast, it was rock solid. The menu is very eclectic with a variety of choice. Only comment on the room would be attention to detail on cleanliness. The main parts of the bathroom / bedroom were very clean and the main surfaces but less obvious places like the skirting boards were particularly dusty and around the plug sockets / towel rail. Overall a wonderful stay and we would definitely visit again."

"Booked this after seeing the upgraded room photos. We booked 2 rooms for 4 of us. The actual rooms were not upgraded. Room was large good size bathroom. Dated. Lots of damaged tiles in bathroom. 2 different Bath taps. Long black hairs on the door and in the bath. 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel isn't enough. Old big mugs for tea making and no glass for water. Heating not working properly so oil filled radiator to plug in. The big concern was the number of single men that appeared to be staying there sat outside on the step smoking. There is no bar. No breakfast no restaurant. As others have said you have to hand your key in when you go out. They said it is so they know who is in but seemed a bit odd. It appears that rooms are being used for housing association clients as suggested in another review. This is a shame as the hotel has such potential."
