«The main reason to book this hotel is the magnificent view from the room. It is genuinely breathtaking, and waking up to such a view is an absolute pleasure. Unfortunately, that is where the positive aspects of my short stay at Kamakura Prince Hotel come to an end. The problems began the moment we checked in. We arrived a little after 5 p.m., only to discover that the swimming pool—the second reason I had booked this hotel in the first place—would be closing at 6 p.m. Unsurprisingly, we had no chance to use it that day. The next issue we encountered was the complete lack of even a basic command of English among the front desk staff. And yes, I am perfectly understanding when people do not speak English. However, there is one important exception: hotel employees whose job is to interact directly with international guests. Once we got to our room, it was clear that it had seen better days. The furnishings are beginning to show their age, although the room itself remains perfectly pleasant. And, of course, it is impossible to overlook the spectacular view of the ocean waves. The following morning, we decided to make another attempt at using the swimming pool. However, the staff tried to explain that we needed some sort of tickets to enter the pool—even though access was included in the room rate. This was the first time anyone had mentioned these tickets to us. After about five minutes of confusion, we were eventually allowed in, only to discover that the pool was freezing cold. Unsurprisingly, after swimming a couple of laps, we got out. As a final touch, the hotel also gently reminded guests that slippers were not to be worn around the property and that tattoos should remain covered at all times. While I understand and respect that these are the hotel’s policies, they certainly added to the rather rigid atmosphere of the stay. During check-out, the front desk staff did not ask how our stay had been. Instead, the entire farewell consisted of the remarkably concise: “No extra pay, goodbye.” A little on the dry side.»

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was very clean, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The location is excellent—everything we needed was nearby, making it very convenient to explore the area. I also really appreciate that the hotel granted my request for a higher-floor room. The view was beautiful and made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff were helpful, and we had a comfortable experience from check-in to check-out. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to others.

The Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu

The hotel is noticeably dated. The rooms have a persistent old-carpet smell, and the advertised room views are misleading. We selected this room expecting abundant natural light and a panoramic 280-degree view, based on the photos provided. In reality, roughly half of the supposed windows are frosted for privacy reasons, something carefully obscured with curtains in the website's photography. The actual view consists primarily of an office building, an amusement park and several construction sites, one of which appears to be a recent development within the amusement park. Due to very poor sound insulation, we could hear jackhammers starting from around 7:30 a.m. each morning. Due to the same reason one would hear every speeding motorbike and, every weekend, loud window-shaking partying early to late evening. The Ferris wheel prominently featured in the hotel's marketing materials is visible only if you stand at the extreme left window of the room. By contrast, the ventilation shafts directly below the room are impossible to miss. When I inquired about changing rooms, the staff did not acknowledge the discrepancy between the advertised and actual views and instead attempted to upsell us to more expensive room categories. The gym exists largely in name only. It consists of two pieces of equipment in a cramped room that closes early, and guests must request special permission each time they wish to use it. To make matters worse, the hotel entrance emits a continuous high-frequency sound. I understand such devices are sometimes used to discourage loitering or deter pests, although their effectiveness is debatable. For younger guests or anyone without significant hearing loss, the sound is distinctly audible and quite painful every time they enter or leave the hotel.

Really enjoyed my stay in the traditional Japanese style room. It overlooked the river and it was wonderfully serene. Room was comfortable and very clean. Getting into the provided yukata after a day out was great. You can wear them anywhere around the hotel including to meals. The hotel was quiet when I stayed and I had the public onsen to myself both days. The hotel dinner was semi- buffet style and you could order all you can eat tempura and steak or local pork. Dinner was delicious for JPY19800 per person, it does get booked out so book your table. Breakfast is buffet style and is a mix of western and traditional food, very large selection of great food. Hotel staff were amazing, was so sweet as our shuttle was leaving after we checked out and the reception staff line up outside to bow and wave you goodbye! You need to ring the hotel to call for a shuttle pick up from Hakone-Yumoto station but it goes from hotel to station at regular intervals. We didn’t try to go out outside the shuttle operation times but I guess you would have to try a taxi or public bus as it would be quite a walk to Hakone-Yumoto. I’d love to come back and stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Yokikan. The hospitality was exceptional from the moment we checked in until after we checked out. What impressed us most was the genuine care shown by the staff. The owner kindly drove us to Ito Station free of charge after our stay, which was a wonderful gesture and greatly appreciated. We would also like to specially thank Ms. Sen. She was incredibly friendly, patient and knowledgeable. Her explanations and travel advice were so clear and helpful that we decided to forgo our original plan of hiring a taxi charter and instead use public transportation, which worked perfectly and saved us a significant amount of money. Yokikan offers not only a unique and charming ryokan experience, but also warm and heartfelt hospitality that makes guests feel truly welcome. We would not hesitate to stay here again when visiting Ito.
