Beautiful hotel had a lovely relaxing stay. Food was lovely really nice breakfast too. Staff were very helpful and really nice. Pool area is good not to busy. Not much round about but perfect if you want a quiet relaxing time away. Would definitely recommend. Will go back again.

What was it that Ripley said in the movie Aliens? “I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.” Those are the words which come to mind after staying at the Riverside Lodge in Irvine for a couple of nights. From their website and, to be fair, when you walk through the front doors, the place comes across as a pretty decent 4 star hotel. Modern looking, shiny floors, and comfortable seating areas. Shame you have to walk through a cloud of cigarette/vape smoke and have to ignore the rain soaked cigarette butts which litter the ground to get to the main entrance. The front desk was quiet when we arrived on a Monday afternoon but check in was served with a snarl by the very sour-faced desk clerk who showed no interest in any form of light-hearted chit chat about the unseasonably good weather. Another scene from Aliens springs to mind: when that poor, barely alive colonist is discovered by the marines, embedded in the wall of the alien nest and cries out “kill me… kill me”. This desk clerk may as well have had that tattooed on her eyelids. That was the general vibe she gave off. Much like most of the other hotel staff, and indeed most of the residents of Irvine itself. Upon passing through reception and walking through the double doors to the bedroom wing of the hotel, it began to feel a bit like we’d walked through a portal into the Overlook Hotel and were back in the 1980s. A couple of very long, dimly lit corridors lined with old wooden doors. The thing we noticed was that several of these doors were not fully closed, and could have been pushed open by anyone with a desire to frighten the living daylights (or worse) out of the occupants. Our room revealed the reason behind this door slightly ajar thing. Once you enter, like most ‘normal’ hotel rooms, the door swings back and closes. In most ‘normal’ hotel rooms the door would usually be fully closed. Not at the Riverside Lodge. It looks from the inside that the door is closed, but the lock is NOT engaged. From a personal safety point of view this is not good, particularly when you realise that ANYONE could walk into the hotel from the outside. ANYONE could walk through the double doors into the Overlook Hotel style corridors. ANYONE could push open one of those doors which hadn’t fully closed. There is no security guard or keycard access to parts of the hotel. It is fully open at all times. Every time we walked along the corridors to get out of the hotel or when we were coming back to the room there were always at least four or five doors which weren’t fully closed and which could easily have been opened. So. Top tip. If you stay here - CHECK YOUR DOOR IS FULLY CLOSED WHEN YOU ENTER AND LEAVE THE ROOM. Anyway, back to what’s inside the room… We’d booked a double room, not a twin, but what we got was a very large room with two large double beds in it. Nice room comfy bed good value for money nice toom

Beautiful hotel had a lovely relaxing stay. Food was lovely really nice breakfast too. Staff were very helpful and really nice. Pool area is good not to busy. Not much round about but perfect if you want a quiet relaxing time away. Would definitely recommend. Will go back again.

Las habitaciones están muy bien, nos disfrutamos de estar en una habitación estándar en la primera noche, usamos la habitación conjunta para nuestros padres y tuvimos la suite de spa en la noche del matrimonio. Todos ellos eran perfectos! La suite de spa es algo más! ¡Haz un favor porque el baño de jacuzzi es la mejor cosa que haya pasado después de una noche de baile! ¡Tenemos nuestra ceremonia fuera y la sala principal para la comida y luego se abrió para la recepción. La comida era fantástica y muchos de mis huéspedes habían dicho que era la mejor comida en un matrimonio que habían tenido y que algunos habían expresado que reservarían algunas noches por sí mismos. El Waterside ofrece un enorme puente, comida, ubicación y un personal ejemplar.
