«Stayed here with my wife and our 2 grandchildren on 13th August for 1 night ,it was our first ever time staying at this hotel and although the location is excellent and from the first look of the hotel it looks amazing, the size,the architectural structure is stunning, the entrance is grand and once inside the lobby is huge with a big staircase in the middle. However after checking in at reception we took the lift to our room on the third floor, and for such a big hotel the lifts are way too small (supposed to fit up to 8 people, maybe 8 children but definitely not 8 adults). We had a family executive seaview room,fairly large sleeping area,1 double and 2 single beds and although the bathroom was modern, tiled from top to bottom, it had a bath with shower/tap combo instead of a walk-in shower area or cubicle, the room itself was very old fashioned and in need of an update, cracked and water marked ceiling and when I presumed the people in the room above ours were taking a shower the ceiling started leaking,dripping into the middle of the room wetting the carpet, we reported this one of the reception staff who just said they would visit the people in the room and see what was causing the leak ”probably using the shower with the curtain outside the bath” they said , we never heard anything back so it seemed like they didn't care. There is a nice large outside balcony seating area which would be nice to sit and have a drink over looking the beach and sea in the hot weather or on a warm night but on a night none of the outside lights worked so was very dark which was a shame. Breakfast options are very limited, sausage, bacon,eggs,beans ,fried tomatoes, toast and cereal . We didn't notice until the morning we left and I'm sort of glad we didn't but we found mice or rat droppings on the carpet,along the edges and in the corner of the room! Overall it's a shame as this hotel was probably amazing 30 - 40 years ago, needs a lot of updating to the rooms and just more general maintenance and TLC to to hotel could make it Grand again albeit very disappointed and will not be staying again unless it gets a complete renovation in the near future.»

«Amazing location including a balcony over the river (from the hotel bar). The bedrooms were nicely decorated and in reasonable condition. There were no drawers for clothes and the wardrobe had no doors, there were just open shelves and open hanging rails with some coat hangers provided. There were several Yorkshire teabags and instant Nescafé coffee sticks (with sugar and milk) provided, and gourmet biscuits. The WiFi was fast. Plug sockets (including USB) were available by the bed but there were no sockets next to the bed. There is no air conditioning but fans are provided. The bathroom was in very poor condition with rust, mold, a very loud extractor fan and a light that took a long time to turn on. Water pressure was excellent however. Breakfast was a typical Full English buffet with sausages, bacon, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, tomato, fried bread and hash browns. Cereal and pastries were also available. You do need to reserve a breakfast time each day. My room was cleaned daily during my stay with tea/coffee/milk/biscuits replenished»

«¡Guau! Reservamos a última hora para tres personas y no vi fotos de la habitación, así que nos sorprendió mucho. Reservé justo porque decía 3 camas, incluía desayuno y estaba en el pueblo. La habitación era enorme. Había una habitación con cama con dosel y otra con una cama doble y una individual, con techos altísimos. Incluso había un pasillo al entrar y el baño tenía bañera y ducha separadas. Todo estaba limpio, las camas eran comodísimas. Había té y cafetera Nespresso con una buena selección de galletas. Una de las habitaciones estaba un poco fría, pero tenían calefactores enchufables. Daba al museo de la sala de bombas. Estaba muy cerca del pueblo, de los jardines del valle y del salón de té Betty's. Era un poco caro, pero era de esperar, ya que lo reservamos a última hora. El aparcamiento, si se consigue plaza, cuesta 12 £ y hay que dejarlo libre antes de las 12 del mediodía. Por desgracia, tuve que aparcar en otro sitio, pero no estaba demasiado lejos (aparcamiento Jubilee por unas 14 £). El desayuno estuvo bien, pero la habitación era aún más impresionante, con sus preciosos techos ornamentados, columnas e iluminación ambiental. Había una selección de platos fríos y calientes, no mucha, pero suficiente. Habría estado bien tener más opciones vegetarianas, como salchichas vegetarianas, y me di cuenta de que usaban la misma cuchara para servir la morcilla y los huevos fritos, así que no los probé y pedí huevos revueltos. En resumen, una estancia muy agradable.»

«Pleasantly surprised after reading reviews but was so much better than I thought, as soon as I got there guy on reception friendly very helpful, sorted car parking for us straight away £6.00 for 3 days reserved so can come and go as pleased excellent value for money , other staff friendly approachable nothing is too much trouble , we were located on second floor room was clean bright bonus of having a bath, only thing I would say bed bases need upgrading as wood had collapsed on one side of ours, tea tray wasn’t topped up but asked guy at reception and the gave us a bag full so not an issue, breakfast was fresh and hot and great views to eat breakfast to, waitress was lovely and friendly, the bar area was clean and bright beer was nice and fresh and reasonably priced. Overall a pleasant stay and would return again mainly for the breakfast view, the staff and the location»

«Booking was easy; the staff were quick and friendly on check in. The room was clean, smelled fresh and the bathroom a lot nicer than last time I wouldn’t recommend paying for the upgrade for a bathtub. They are so small you can’t relax in them.  Breakfast was to die for. Fantastic range, and delicious cumberland sauages making a change to the usual hotel pork sausages»

«La habitación es bastante antigua y un poco anticuada (depende de la percepción de cada uno, a algunos les puede gustar el aire anticuado). La higiene es regular, y siempre se me pegan pelos blancos largos (tenemos el pelo *****). El pequeño patio es muy elegante y el servicio también es muy bueno. Salvo por la poca eficiencia, no hay ningún problema.»

«We booked two lovely ”King” rooms - very clean and comfortable, in superb settings. The hotel is very conveniently located to allow a short walk into the town. We stayed for two nights, and there were busy weddings on both days - but there was minimal noise, and the wedding guests added to the lovely atmosphere. The hotel appeared to be almost fully booked for both days, so finding that only ONE lift was working was less than helpful (we were told that the other lift had been out of action ”for some time”, due to the hotel ”awaiting spare parts”?) Annoyingly, the one working lift only went up to the 4th floor, so to reach our room on the 5th floor we had to hump our suitcases up the stairs - minor inconvenience, but unexpected from such a prestigious hotel. Our biggest gripe was (a.) the lack of available parking spaces (one car park had a huge marquee erected on it for a function) and (b.) being told when checking in that there was a parking charge of £18 per night - even though there was no mention on the website or on the booking details. It felt rather ”cheap and petty” for a hotel to have to stoop to fleecing their guests for parking fees to park at their hotel! We estimated that there were around 150 cars - so guests with cars are subsiding the hotel by over £2500 per night. All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel set in lovely surroundings - we would definitely stay there again.»

«Si usted es chino, sugiero que piense dos veces antes de quedarse aquí. En el edificio del lado me asignaron primero una habitación que se reequipaba de molde y tenía un baño roto. Después de quejarme, me trasladaron a una habitación accesible en el mismo piso, a pesar de no tener necesidad de accesibilidad no hay baño, un bañera absurdamente pequeño, y un espejo colocado para los usuarios de sillas de ruedas. Si se consideraba que sería una sustitución adecuada, tal vez también deberían haber proporcionado un silla de ruedas. El hotel está en una zona de 2 estrellas, donde se encuentran 2 habitaciones. ¿Por qué me dio primero una habitación moldeada, roto, y luego una habitación totalmente inadecuada y accesible cuando el suelo ni siquiera parecía lleno? Separativamente, hubo una recepcionista blanca cuya conducta hizo que la experiencia empeorara: el dramático rollo de ojos, una actitud condescendente, seguido del sonrisa más artificial “profesional” imaginable. No puedo probar la motivación que se inspira en la asignación de la habitación, pero como invitado chino, toda la experiencia me dejó sentirse sin duda excluido y discriminado. Un cuarto terrible puede ser un accidente.»
