Hotel Der Waldhof

We stayed at the Hotel Der Waldhof in January 2025. Our group was a mixed group of six friends (all roughly in our 40s) on a skiing trip to Zell Am See. We booked the Waldhof through Crystal Ski, and stayed in 2 of the Junior Suites, 3 to a room. The price per person for the week was £1144 - this included just the room, half board and flights. I did feel that this was quite pricey for one person sharing a room with 2 others, that's nearly £7000 for 2 rooms for the week!! The suites have a European style double bed (which is more like to small double mattresses on a single bed base with individual bedspreads), a pull out sofa bed, and a separate room with 2 bunk beds. It slept 3 quite comfortably, though if you were very familiar with your co-travellers you could probably push the numbers to 5 or 6. The shower room and toilet are separate rooms, and all rooms are separated by glass doors. The pictures on the website are a good representation of what you get. Overall, the rooms were warm, clean, and the beds were comfy. There are no kettles in the room, which was a bit of a pain when you're gasping for a cup of tea!! Our rooms were in the new part of the building; there are a couple of social areas within the landings, so do be prepared for some noise in the night. The building also houses a children's area, so it can get quite noisy. WiFi is good throughout the hotel. Half board included breakfast, evening meal, and an apres ski snack between 1530 and 1730. Breakfasts were alright, with a typical hot options (bacon, sausages, eggs etc) and plenty of cold options. Dinner was alright - couple of hot options (stews, roasts), and lots of traditional colder options. The apres was a bit hit and miss - if you get there at 1700 when they're looking to get ready for dinner service there isn't a huge amount of options left - if anything! Whilst the food was all pretty decent, it gets a bit repetitive after a few days. The service area is also not big enough for the hotel, so it does get a bit busy from time to time. And with only 2 coffee machines in the morning, when everyone is trying to get out and on the slopes there is usually a decent sized queue for coffee. Drinks are somewhere between average hotel prices to expensive. a Beer is approx £5.00, a large Coke is approx £5.00, and a triple whiskey is approx £18.00. They don't accept card, only cash or room charges! A jug of topwater on your table with dinner is charged at 4.50 Euros !!! Moving on, the boot room was pretty decent. There are plenty of lockers and your equipment is always dry and warm in the mornings. The slopes are either a 3 minutes bus ride up to the main gondola station, or down to the lowest gondola station. The bus stop is a 1 minute walk from the hotel and is included in your left pass. Heading down on the bus takes you to the "postplatz", where you can easily catch buses to Salbach or Kaprun (also included in your left pass, and definitely with the 20-30 minute trip!!

Food great except based really for children as curry not hot or chillies sauce either staff lovely barman nondescript. Not our favorite George like last time we stayed. Room 1113 noisy as above kitchen so noisy from 5 am and 6 am pool pump started. Wooden sided single beds so unconfortable nooky! Hotel free bikes not great though brakes worked.

Myself and my Mum stayed at Der Waldhof the week of the 1st June for 2 weeks, We stayed in the "original part" the room was Comfy and clean, it was at the front near the road which was noisy at times but not all the time and could cope with it. As soon as we entered the hotel the staff was helpful and welcoming. All the staff were fantastic and made the stay lovely. The food was good some of the food on offer was very "Austrian" with enough different types on offer so we could find something we enjoyed at every meal. Especially the afternoon cakes. Just to note that the all inclusive drinks do not cover all on offer how ever it didn’t spoil the holiday as we were aware of this before arrival. A lovely friendly clean welcoming base to go and see some of the lovely scenery on offer around Zell em see and the surrounding area for some nice summer walks. The hotel is up a steep hill with a walk down to Zell and a good hike up from Zell but the local bus runs regularly and makes for easy access to the hotel. We stayed 24 years ago, the hotel was much smaller and the general area was not as built up. But that would not stop us visiting again hopefully before 24 years. We would recommend Der Waldhof for a holiday.

Stayed for 3 nights bed and breakfast, unlike most other guests who were all-inclusive. Had booked the most basic room which was quite compact, but had large balcony overlooking the road. It was in the main building at the front which did mean that every morning at around 6:30/7:00 I was awoken by deliveries as the soundproofing was not good. The mattress was very bouncy and it is a long time since I have felt springs in a mattress in a hotel. Mattress topper needed and double bed frame not two single ones pushed together. Hotel facilities are really good, especially the indoor pool and spa complex. Only had breakfast which was very good, if chaotic, but this is unavoidable for an extensive buffet. Large choice of options available.

Four friends (two couples) stayed here. From the moment we arrived we were given a warm welcome. All the staff were great - friendly, efficient and very good at their job. Our room on the first night was at the front of the hotel and we were disturbed by traffic noise from the road. Next day we asked if we could be moved to a quieter room and were given another room in the annexe across the road. This is a fairly new part of the hotel, only finished at the end of 2023, and the room was superb - very quiet, modern, clean, spacious. The food is buffet style and different every night. There really is something for everyone. There were a couple of themed nights - a bbq night and Italian night. Breakfast was also good with a choice of hot and cold food . There was a good bar area with plenty of seating. Kristian who works behind the bar was excellent at his job. One evening there was entertainment with two guys playing guitars and singing. Wasn’t expecting anything great but they were very good and created a great atmosphere with people singing along and dancing. Overall we had a great stay and I would definitely recommend staying here.

Stayed at the Waldhof with a group of 10 March 2024. Outstanding hotel with great staff and fantastic food. Johannes needs to get a special mention who looked after all of us. Facilities are brilliant which includes gym and no less than 5 saunas, steam room outdoor and indoor pools. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.
