Stayed as a family for a week so our 3 adult kids could ski & snowboard at the nearby Naeba ski resort. A few points about our stay in Naeba: · The 2br maisonette apartments were very spacious, with comfy western-style beds (although the smaller upstairs sofa lounger wasn’t great according to daughter #2). One problem we did have was that since the apartment and beds were so comfortable we all slept in each morning · The apartments are heated with under floor heating which kept the temperature at around a pleasant 16-17 degrees. Be aware though that it is on a 12hr timer. Our first night it turned off during the night so we woke up to a rather chilly 12 degrees · The washing machines and dryers were free which was a real bonus · The Wyndham staff were excellent even though they didn’t speak English (Google translate came to the rescue). They organised luggage forwarding and taxi back to Echigo-Yuzawa station with a minimum of fuss. · The meals and drinks they provided were mostly cheap and very nice. For a bit more variety we had a few meals out at the Prince Hotel (which has 20+ takeaways, cafes & restaurants) and one meal at the nearest restaurant heading towards Naeba village (a 5-10 min walk away) · Wyndham Sundance Resort Naeba is quite close to the Naeba ski resort and the massive Prince Hotel: a 5-10 min walk · The ski field opened a week later than planned, on the 23rd Dec with only 5 out of the 15 lifts operating. Even though we only arrived a few days later on the 27th the kids said that the skiing was fine with only very short queues for the lifts for the 1st few days. However, after a big dump of snow one night and the next morning, the crowds came out of nowhere so it may get quite busy during peak winter holiday season · My wife and I did the Dragondola ride, a 7 km gondola ride to a nearby ski resort. As non-skiing tourists it only cost us around AUD$28 each for the return trip. It is one of the longest gondola rides in the world · The one thing that Naeba lacks is a local taxi service. Taxis are only used to get to/from Echigo-Yuzawa station for the Shinkansen trains, at around AUD$100-$120. The only way to get around Naeba itself is to walk, unless you hire a car elsewhere else and use that. There is also a local bus service to/from Echigo-Yuzawa station which is specifically timetabled to meet (some of) the Shinkansen trains All up, I could say that we had a very good time there and that Wyndham Sundance Resort Naeba is highly recommended. Just, if you are planning to go there, ensure that have your transport plans worked out
