The hotel itself was fine. Clean, ordinary size room, typical breakfast. The breakfast staff were friendly. But the check-in was not pleasant. We got to the hotel very tired, and the hotel has no elevator. The “strongest” member of our family who has to carry our suitcases up the stairs is in his mid-seventies (!). So we asked if we could have a room on the first floor. The receptionist was not pleased and just said she could not do it because we pre-paid for our room…. Hmm. We travel all the time and are Choice Hotels Diamond members. Most hotels in our hundreds hotel experiences and every hotel on this particular trip (we’d been on the road for three weeks by then) tried to accommodate us if we asked or were sincerely apologetic and explained in detail why they could not. Maybe we just got used to the excellent and kind receptionists in Canada that we had met prior to this one. :) The hotel did not look full. There were only a few cars in the large parking lot, and we arrived quite late. And the parking lot remained that way overnight. We understand that it had something to do with our prepaying for our room, but it would have been nice if the receptionist at least tried to help. Or/and at least talked to us; and not just say “I cannot do it because you prepaid.” Anyway, don’t prepay, apparently. I’m kidding. We probably just got a strange receptionist. Other than that, the hotel is fine.
