I stayed at Novotel Xi'an Daming Palace for three nights, and it was a total disaster. This hotel is falsely advertised as 5-star; in my opinion, even 3 stars would be a stretch. Here are the reasons:
Lobby: There is practically no lobby! It's just a tiny 20-square-meter space with one sofa on the 6th floor.
Room Amenities: The rooms were basic at best. No coffee maker, just an electric kettle. No face towels, no cotton buds, no shaving kit, no bathtub, and worst of all, no swimming pool. These are basic features even mid-range hotels offer, let alone a supposed "5-star."
Breakfast: The breakfast was mostly Chinese food with little to no variety. Nothing was replenished once it was gone. The staff responsible for making eggs left an hour before breakfast service ended, which was completely unprofessional.
Construction Noise: The hotel blatantly lied about the extent of construction work. They mentioned it was “nearby,” but in reality, it was inside the hotel. Constant drilling, hammering, and unbearable noise made it impossible to relax or even sleep.
The only positive aspect of this hotel was the polite and helpful behavior of the reception staff and housekeeping team. But even their efforts cannot make up for how poorly managed and falsely advertised this property is.
This hotel is a disgrace to the Novotel brand, and I will never stay at any Novotel property again. If you’re looking for a genuine 5-star experience, avoid this place at all costs.
