The Commercial Hotel

Worst experience we’ve ever had in a hotel.We booked for one night as we were attending our friends birthday party,dumped our stuff and ordered a meal fish and chips for two the fish batter was dark brown obviously the oil required changing that was just the start of the nightmare,things just got worst,came back went to our room it was freezing no heating unbelievable a small electric heater that didn’t heat the room only it’s self,had to keep our clothes on and wrap ourselves in the duvet impossible to sleep it was Baltic,couldn’t have shower as the toilet was even colder like walking into a fridge. We had to wait till 10am to have a cooked breakfast thought might as well get something that we’ve paid for low and behold the chef was stuck in traffic and we couldn’t have breakfast until she showed up at 11am.My husband spoke to the young man when he handed the key and complained about the fridge we were supposed to sleep in and his response was did they not tell you at checking there was a problem with the heating.No one mentioned to us the heating was faulty,why if they new the heating was faulty in the middle of winter did they not contact us and let us know to give us the opportunity to get somewhere else to stay.There were no one to complain to in the morning when we left can’t believe we had to pay for the privilege of staying in a fridge.The only positive thing about this place the staff are nice. Have visited this eatery for a few years now for occasional lunches. Alway found the food very good value for money. Unfortunately can’t say the same for yesterday’s visit. Both myself and my friend ordered chicken fajitas which took ages to arrive. The portion size was very small, the sauce was dried and stuck to the dish, the vegetables were nonexistent. We both had 2 wraps which were crispy (obviously had been overheated), but there was only enough chicken to fill one each. All in all we were both very disappointed and will not be returning to what used to be one of our favourite places to eat.

Very much changed inside from when I knew the Commercial Hotel, 40+ years ago, but now a nice classy looking bar/restaurant, perhaps spoiled somewhat, by having quite a few TVs; like an American sports bar. Our hotel room was small (they all are in Scotland by U.S. standards), but clean, cozy and comfortable. A few stairs to negotiate, but no big deal really. Free car park and Wifi. Also great fried (or continental) breakfasts available. Staff were okay, but not overly friendly. An easy walk to Behaven Park, Lidl Supermarket and Wishaw Main Street, and is virtually next door to the wonderful and very long established "Golden Fry" fish and chip shop. Now Wishaw's only remaining hotel, so please use it or lose it...

Just had the most amazing meal. I had steak and sausage pie which was delicious. Husband had Sticky Chili Chicken. Can’t thank the chefs Chloe and Andy enough. Would definitely recommend this hotel for food. The bar staff are extremely friendly.

Went in today as I thought I'd treat my hubby to a nice lunch. Ordered a lentil soup & steak & sausage pie. Normally a lentil soup is thick and tasting of ham stock, this was tasteless watery and STONE COLD. The waitress was very nice and apologised profusely, saying "the soup kettle hadn't been turned on this morning". Dread to think where the soup was sitting and how long then. Sent back the soup and just cancelled it. The steak pie dinner was not much better. The chips were warm and tasted fine. The vegetables were look warm and half cooked. The steak and sausage in the pie were cold and the pie was greasy tasting. We also purchased 1 can of Irn Bru & an apero spritz, Just over £37.75 for 2 steak pie dinners & the two drinks. It wasnt worth it, and after complaining to them about the cold soup it wasn't worth getting into it about the pie. Just put it down to experience and not go back. The only thing the restaurant in this hotel has to offer is its lovely waiting staff. The girl who served us was very pleasant and very honest. Otherwise, dont eat here. It was truly awful.

Stayed overnight after attending funeral room is nice but could hear music from bar & people on the next room tv & talking. Paid extra for breakfast to be included for n stay when checking in told continental break only available up to 10am then cooked breakfast starts at 10m I assume when you’ve paid for breakfast it should be available when you get up. Even when 10am came & I order it a lady at the bar 10 min later a man came over what room were you in then passed a menu I said I’ve already order at the bar is there a problem he said no but didn’t seem too sure about it we were made to feel very uncomfortable for something that was included in our stay 3 time I’ve stayed here will I be back no.
