I am writing to express my profound disappointment with my recent stay at the Williamsburg Lodge, an Autograph Collection hotel, where I encountered unacceptable conditions that have compelled me to take action. As a long-time Gold Status Bonvoy member, I have always trusted Marriott to provide quality accommodations, and I was eagerly looking forward to my visit. However, upon arrival, I was horrified to find my initial room in a deplorable state. The bathroom ceiling was falling apart-hanging down and peeling paint posed a significant hazard. When I approached the front desk, the manager feigned surprise, claiming it was the first complaint they had received. After viewing several other rooms—each similarly in disrepair—I was shown a room that reeked of animal urine. The manager suggested this was a building-wide issue and assured me it would be reported. However, my concerns were dismissed as I encountered further evidence of neglect, including a leaking ceiling in the hallway and missing tiles-a bucket was thrown haphazardly under it to catch the water. A housekeeper I spoke to confirmed that there had been ongoing complaints about my specific room. With children in tow, I felt it was entirely unsafe to remain in such an environment. Unfortunately, I was told my only options were to stay in my original room or move to the one with the odor. With no other accommodations available due to Homecoming I was forced to pack my family back into the car after an exhausting eight-hour drive. After a further 90-minute journey, I found a hotel in Virginia Beach at an additional cost of $1,000. This was not an expense I had anticipated, and it is utterly unacceptable that I had to incur this due to the negligence of the Williamsburg Lodge. This situation has not only caused significant financial strain but has also turned what should have been a fun family getaway into a distressing experience.
