I decided to take my wife for a night away from the kids. The Glenview Hotel is located about 4 miles from home, and with kids etc, the close distance is sometimes ideal for a night away without the hassle of long drives. On arrival, we checked in and I felt the check in process took a good while to complete. Additionally, the Hotel demand a pre authorization of €150 on your card in case of room damage!!! Personally, I feel this does not reflect well as is paints everyone as a potential trouble maker that checks into the hotel and does not set a good tone for an initial impression. Its as though the hotel have a pre conceived notion that everyone that stays with them might cause trouble. As someone who once worked in the Hospitality industry, I found this slightly of putting. The gentleman behind the reception desk was Julian and he had a 'trainee' badge on his jacket. He was very good and very well presented and well mannered and took his time when helping us. The room we were allocated was on the ground floor. Nothing special really. Its very obvious that the rooms are approaching a slightly tired look. I have travelled extensively lately and stayed in over 12 Hotels in the past 3 months all over Europe and I would have good experience of what is the 'norm' these days in 4 star properties. The room we had, although clean and tidy and no issues as such, just lacked a modern touch. Old style taps, repainted architrave and lacked warmth. They have a very large coffee machine in the room along with an instruction book on how to use it. The water tank on the rear was bone dry and as an avid coffee drinker, I would always have a quick coffee in my hotel room while getting ready to eat etc, but the way this machine was presented left me with a feeling that I could not be confident if the machine was cleaned recently or if it had been left sitting there for a long time without being used, so I did not use it. Additionally, there was no instructions on how or where to fill the water tank from. Do you use the tap in the bathroom or where? The room had absolutely no welcome booklet or pack for guests. This was odd as every Hotel I have stayed in generally has a book presented with details of the Hotel and the room information like WiFi and additional services like room service etc. They also had bottles of water in the room, but again, a lot of Hotels charge for the water in bottles, and in the absence of any clear information about the room, you don't know if you are going to pay a lot for the water bottles etc, so its quite confusing. We booked a meal in their restaurant in the Hotel on the evening we stayed. This was a big disappointment for us. The 'restaurant' lacked any atmosphere or ambience of what a restaurant should have. The decor was black, and the room looked like it was a repurposed function room that someone had a notion at one stage to run into a restaurant. It would have been nice if the restaurant had its own DNA separate to the Hot
