We booked two rooms for a one night stay for my elderly parents and myself for a visit to the Hundertwasser Art Centre and had such a wonderful time that we wished we had booked the extra night. Our host made us feel completely at home, with every amenity you could wish for and more! We had our own lounge to sit in and on arrival after the drive up from Auckland, were served with a cup of tea by Jennie and some delicious homemade cake. There was a fully set up refreshments bar area which we could help ourselves from at any time of the night or day for cups of tea (including all herbal varieties) and selections of different coffees and chilled water. Breakfast was superb with an amazing freshly cut fruit salad, great coffee and a selection of homemade preserves and ham and cheese filled croissants and toast. Our beds were wonderfully comfortable and bathrooms were spotlessly clean with our host taking all health precautions. We were the only guests, occupying both guest rooms, so the lounge was for our sole use. Truly "home away from home". I particularly enjoyed the bush walk through the Kauri Forest accessed via the road opposite Chelsea House. The track leads down a river into the town centre with raised board walk over mangroves, really fantastic and the perfect start to my day before breakfast the next morning. Jennie has all the information on how to find the track and if you have time there are many other wonderful hikes in the area.
