The Bird in Hand Inn, Witney

Gorgeous historical place, spectacular dining food and very good services

Hard to say if it’s a good business or work stopover.. judging from the food, it’s more of a treat establishment.. the food was lovely but the way, really good.. service was slow but honestly I didn’t mind.. I was in no hurry. Room was pleasant enough, the huge sleigh bed was covered with repairs and bits of metal holding it together.. Only issue I had, it just seemed a little snobby and uppity.. the staff weren’t rude at all but they certainly weren’t attentive and asking for a drink seemed a bit of a chore.. The Bird In Hand is in a money area, and the clientele clearly displayed that, so I guess I may not have fitted the ideal profile but overall, a pleasant stay and lovely food.

We stayed here with some friends from the Midlands on 20th April, rooms 5 & 7. We arrived just before they stopped serving lunch, which was handy as we hadn’t had a chance to get anything. Lunch was excellent. As many reviewers have mentioned you will probably need to book for dinner. Our friends had to book a table for 6pm. A bit earlier than we’d normally eat but it wasn’t a problem. Dinner was amazing and we were able to stay at our table chatting for most of the evening before retiring to the bar. Many beers and vino callapsos followed until a young lady popped her head around the corner to say they were going home - oops we’d lost track of time. Sorry guys. Our room was large and the bed comfy. The shower was great too. Couldn’t fault the breakfast. The staff were helpful and attentive. The following day we popped over to Burford, always worth a visit.
