We were passing through and needed to spend a night, so we chose this place. I knew in advance they were doing some construction outside, but it definitely started things off the wrong foot as it was hard to find parking as a result. Even worse, even though it wasn’t near the construction site, they had a large dumpster blocking multiple parking spaces right in front of the temporary entrance. I saw a sign talking about the renovations outside, but they need to do the inside as well as it looked dated, and the halls were dark. This is the first Hampton I’ve been to in a long time that didn’t have a microwave, and the ‘work area’ was just a moveable table. Even worse, we saw a couple of ants we had to kill. We didn’t know this in advance, but we picked a lousy time to stay as I guess the state fair was underway and between that and other summer vacations, the place was either full (or close to it) and it was a zoo. The pool was slightly smaller than average and as a result, we couldn’t even go in as it was completely packed. We did sneak in the next morning, but even then, it was getting crowded. It was also the first pool I’ve been to with multiple signs saying the activity is being recorded, but not monitored. Huh? So I guess you will only care when there is a lawsuit and then you’ll watch and see what happened? The clock in the pool didn’t work and the windows were dirty, so just not a good experience. The only decent thing was the whirlpool, but that was often filled as well. The workout room was standard and only had two treadmills and one was out of order so that limited that part. The breakfast was probably the only good thing that happened as I assumed it would be hard to find a table, but they had tables in many different areas, so it wasn’t a problem. The breakfast is the standard Hampton fair and they had a couple of the waffle machines. When a server noticed I was trying to get the small number of strawberries left, she quickly got a new supply so the service here was good. Finally, as an example of how old the room is, while I know many hotels still have phones, but this one had a bunch of signs talking about long distance charges and data ports, so I’m assuming this was the original phone they had when the place opened. Also, at pretty much every hotel that has a phone, you would see a button to call the front desk (or checkout), but no buttons at all and when I dialed 0 to checkout, it just kept ringing, so it was an appropriate end. I like the Hampton Inn chain in general and try and stay in one at least once a year, but this was a failure and won’t come back.
