Garner Hotel Auburn - Seattle

The rooms were attractive and clean with comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom was very small (the towels very very small too as well as thin.) Our shower experience was terrible as we never had water in our shower any warmer than cool to tepid! When we called the desk (both afternoons) we were told that the water was on a heat cycle every 30 minutes and perhaps later the third floor would have hot water, because shower usage was high. We were told to try again in 30 minutes! Again no hot water except in the sink never in the shower. Needless to say it never was barely warm all 3 nights of our stay! Our tv received cable the first evening but the second night and third night reception/cable was down in our room so the tv was out of commission. If we hadn’t been staying in the hotel with our granddaughter’s team we would have checked out and stayed elsewhere. On a positive note-I can say the staff was friendly and the breakfast area was very clean, and it offered a great array of food choices. The coffee machines in the eating area and lobby made great coffee. ( there are no coffee makers in the rooms.)

I stayed a this hotel when it first switched brands. I was going to make it my overnight early morning flight hotel as it is less than 20 min from SeaTac and has free parking. However, this time something very strange was going on at this property (see photo). At the middle back of the hotel, at 9 pm at night, there were what looked to be a half-dozen male construction workers wearing outdoor clothes and standing outside a ship container marked “Jiffy Bin.” 1. The FD person, who had zero personality, tried to check me into a 1st floor room. I have not stayed at a hotel with outside parking where headlights come into the room for 30+years. I was told that was the only room. I asked to talk to the Manager on Duty. After 5 min the same FD person came out shaking her head and booked me into another room on the 2nd floor. Outside the window of that room I saw the workers. Does the City of Auburn allow work like this going on after 9pm like this was? Because of the noise, I went down again to get my room moved. However, the only room was still over this nighttime work area. The FD service was atrocious. Lovely lady at the FD in the am. I am done with this hotel.

This hotel has rooms with 3 beds, which was great for our group of friends traveling together. Tasty cookies at check in and good variety for breakfast. Our room was clean and we had no issues with check in. Area around the hotel seems a bit old or run down, but we had no problem finding places to eat, snack, get gas, etc.

The hotel is in overall good shape, but the service here leaves a lot to be desired. My wife and I stayed here as the last leg of our Northwest Washington roadtrip for two nights. Our first night seemed to go well. The room was overall fairly clean. Checkin was easy and friendly, and the bed was comfortable especially after spending the previous two nights camping out in the rain. However, during the day after and the second night of our visit there was a number of bad experiences. One of the rooms just down the hall from us was apparently flooded and as I was walking past the two workers that were standing there with not even a wet floor sign, they didn’t say a word as I trod right through a soaked carpet and soaked my socks and shoes, and only said “Sorry Sir” after the fact. Then, the water was later shut off to our room without even a heads up. We ended up leaving the room for the day so I’m not sure how long it was turned off but it was at least 90 minutes before we left. We also wanted to wash some clothes in the guest laundry but weren’t able to do so due one of the dryers being out of service and the other being in use. Then, when we returned we went to use the spa, I asked for four towels. Two to replace the ones we had used previously in the day, and two to use once my wife and I were done with the spa (because there are no towels provided in the spa…) The gals at the front desk that evening argued with me over their “two-towels” policy. Seriously? Do I really need to have you turn down the entire room just to replace the towels? Such a shame that they’re letting bad service prevent them from really turning this place around since they took it over.

Flew to Seattle with a hop over to Vancouver. Needed a hotel for the night the day we landed from an early flight, so as to not wear myself out hopping over the border. My favorite hotels in Metro Seattle, are usually near South Center Mall. But I was shocked to find that they were at least 60% more than the last time I visited Seattle. Using all of the apps, Tripadvisor, Kayak, HotelsTonight, IHG and others, could not find a decent price below $250 per night, with taxes and fees. The IHG app, did show a new addition to the chain and that was this Garner Hotel Auburn property. First thought it was scam website insertion, because it did not look like any regular IHG property I visited before. After reading the reviews, decided to drive to it first, about 15 minutes more away from the airport in Auburn, than the South Center hotels. I asked to see a room, because my companion, she's kind of picky. They showed me a room, and I was very pleased. So I booked it on the IHG app for around $180 including taxes, (it was slightly cheaper than doing it with the front desk). Location- South Central Mall area hotels are very close to the airport, which I prefer. However, this hotel was only about 15 minutes more further away (south) in an industrial type location. Exterior- Gives you the vibe from the outside of a motel, but it is basic and nice inside. Staff- Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful. I wanted to know where I could photograph Mt. Rainier, and they told me a perfect spot at a local cemetery. Even better spot than I've found in Seattle, before. Room- My companion like the room and bed and thought it was a good choice. The furnishing were up to stuff and every thing was very clean. Photos are from the cemetery they recommended, for viewing Mt. Rainier. Plus some other spots that I visited between Seattle and Vancouver. Breakfast- They had a decent breakfast in the morning, that was enough to hold you until the afternoon. Typical eggs, pancake machines, juices, etc. The price was decent enough that not only did we stay here when we landed at SeaTac, we stayed here again, after coming back from Canada, spending one night, until our flight the next afternoon! Highly recommended, for 'reasonable sane' rates, compared to the hotels near the airport.
