The Walkhampton Inn

Lovely pub food (menu never gets boring) and ever changing drinks choice - beer, ciders and spirits - where possible supporting local brewery’s. Landlord very accommodating and often goes above and beyond. Frequent events most recently Great 70s night - brilliant atmosphere. Shame we had to see a guest berating a poor staff member about the loud music whilst admitting they knew about the music night !? And then they were disgusted that they weren’t offered a refund when they wanted to leave - before the midnight curfew!? It’s great to see a thriving and surviving local pub who are continually trying to improve.

Booked a 2 night stay to go walking on the moors. The positives of this place are the friendliness of the young staff and the planting around the pub. Food is good and location is fab. Onto the negatives…. The building is literally falling apart. There is rubbish everywhere, furniture is fit for a skip and the cleanliness questionable. At one point there was water pouring through the ceiling into the main pub. Apparently this is a regular thing if the guests of the room above have a long shower. The room…. Small as we were expecting but the bathroom is so small it’s difficult to manoeuvre around and inorder to sit on the toilet, you have to do so almost sideways! There is a raised decking area right outside the window with seating so unless you want to listen to the drunken ramblings the window needs to be kept shut. Also the curtains closed. All of the above would not be enough for me to leave a bad review, we would have just accepted it as a learning experience and accepted that at the end of the days it’s budget accommodation. But….. on the second night we were made aware of a 70’s night. Not our thing but it’s a pub so expect there to be noise which is fine. However the noise and base was so loud and unbearable! The room was vibrating and even with the tv volume was on the loudest in the room, we were unable to hear it. At 11:45pm we had had enough and went down to ask what time the music would stop as it was ridiculous! To be fair to the guy I spoke to, he was friendly and apologetic but didn’t know what time it would finish. By midnight we had had enough and packed to leave. Went down to hand our key in and asked to speak to the manager. Absolutely abysmal narcissistic attitude from this vile man. Not sure if he was very drunk or on something but was not acting like a rational human being. His response to our complaint was “it’s a pub what do you expect” “the event is on all our socials” (it was only on their fb 2 days before the event and after we had booked!) and “we have a licence until midnight” which is not what it says on their website and as it’s a pub in a very closely confined quaint little village is surprising if true. Ultimately dont book to stay here as paying guests are obviously seen as a nuisance.

As a keen Moors walker I get to visit many pubs and am happy to state that the Majority are very Good with all staff working very hard in these difficult times for the rural establishments. The Walkhampton Inn is right up there, possibly topping service, value and quality for customers and its small community! Parking can be a challenge for those driving, but it is not insurmountable. Give this Inn a Visit.

We booked a 3 night stay here and checked out after 1 night. The rain was literally pouring in one corner o the room and it smelled rancid... which we found was due to a disgusting old towel being used to catch the water! The manager came and looked, seemed quite disinterested and told us it should stop raining soon so not to worry. Hallways were scruffy and dirty. On the positive side, the breakfast was quite nice. Absolutely don't stay here

Went for food and we were really disappointed. The chips were inedible as they were so overcooked, the pie was inedible as the pastry was rock hard and the mash was bland and powdery. When we went to pay we were ts we had to pay for it as there was nothing wrong with food, other than the pie being a bit overdone, but the inside was fine, Apparently this is how they serve their chips...burnt and potato-less! But apparently noone else complains about the chips, so that's ok!! Yum!! Enjoy folks!

Awesome, the room was very spacious the staff were super accommodating and knowledgeable about the location. Perfect b and b we stayed for two nights with our puppy and explored the surrounding areas which was amazing. Food was also incredible and very good value (two people with a drink came to £34)! Can't fault this stay. Plenty of walks around the area with all levels of difficulty so perfect for pick nicks etc, beer garden is also a great little suntrap 🌞

We've been to the Walkhampton Inn twice this year (2023) for lunch and it did not disappoint. The pies are amazing, so much choice and full of flavour and the chips are delicious. Kids enjoyed their meal too and my daughter is fussy so they made her a cheese sandwich. The staff and friendly and the pub is a lovely traditional village pub with fire. My husband enjoyed a stout. Thank you, we'll see you soon no doubt.

Very attentive, knowledgeable and polite staff . Evening meal for 4 .all food was fresh and homemade . Portions were great . More than enough. Mushroom pasta smelt Chicken burger and chips Steakburger and chips Steak and Ale pie , mash and peas . All the food was given a massive thumbs up from us . I had the pie and mash and it was a proper top notch pie ! Pastry all round and a beautiful steak filling . Mash was great and was even offered more gravy if I wanted it . Food was fabulous. Highly recommended.

Went there for a meal. Food was excellent but part of the ceiling dropped off and landed in my partners dinner. Manager insisted that we pay for the meal as half had been eaten. Not worth arguing about it so will not return or recommend.
