We've just returned from two weeks at the Tangerine Beach hotel - our 3rd visit to this lovely place. It was purely to be a R&R holiday, as we had toured Sri Lanka before and didn't need to go rushing all over the country. The biggest asset this hotel has is it's staff. Every one of them without exception had a smile on their face, were kind, friendly, helpful & couldn't do enough for us. Checking in was seamless, our room boy made himself known to us, and we were in the bar before we had unpacked. Remember to take coat hangers, we only had 4 in our room. There is no need to worry as water is provided, two bottles in the morning, then again at night there is an evening service. They will top up your water supplies, tea bags etc if required, and turn down your bed. Most electric sockets are like our own, but there were no USB sockets - so don't forget your adaptor. Management do make a fuss of you when you've stayed before. We had an ocean view reserved table in the restaurant for our entire holiday, organised by Mr Supervisor in the red shirt. We did enjoy chatting to him and nothing was too much trouble for him, a big thank you (you know who you are). Also a lady from our 1st 2 visits remembered us, it was lovely to see her again. We had early morning tea on the balcony watching the pool being vacuumed by Manesh. He always waved & set up our loungers & towels for us. The whole pool team were brilliant and work really hard. Plenty of towels are available, but the lounger cushions could now do with being updated. We were bitten quite regularly by mozzies at dusk, especially if it had been raining. You need jungle formula stuff and a soothing after bite lotion too. We did get to know the bar staff too, pina colada, gin fizz but alas not much wine available. Lion beer is like lager, rather gassy. We were invited to a special 'returners dinner' 2 days before we came home. Just for the 2 of us, outside by the sea. There were so many courses of luscious food we just couldn't manage it all, but we did have a good try! We were made to feel really special, and at the end there were fireworks and a gift of Ceylon tea. This was arranged by the management who said they so appreciated our returning custom. Thank you so much for looking after us so well. Unfortunately since our last visit the beach has all but disappeared. The sea is very rough, and the red flag was flying during our entire visit. There is good security along the length of the hotel grounds, where they keep their eye on anyone who does go into the sea. Nearest supermarket is up the top of the road, cross over on the crossing as road is really busy. Then turn left and it's just along a little way. Called Keells it stocks everything from mosquito spray to loose rice and tea bags. We felt very emotional when we left, staff members wished us well, and also asked how we'd enjoyed our returners dinner. Lots of hugs and hand shakes. A really lovely holiday, thank you everyo
