Hotel The Originals Château de Perigny

The Chateau looks okay in the photo but is very run down and scruffy , scuffed paint work , dirty net curtains. Reception and all facilities are in different building , we were given a room key and pointed towards the Chateau Possibly they didn't want to get wet showing us to the room but didn't even offer an umbrella. We has dinner as we were travelling back from Spain. Very little choice , only 2,choices and pretty average .Breakfast was very self service as there were no staff to be seen.I think they run the place for functions as they seem totally disinterested in guests. If we had booked 2 nights we wouldn't have stayed.

The hotel is a beautiful place with a large and nice swimingpool, we have enjoyed. Unfortunately the diner has been so disappointing...

The room was nice and our mise en bouche,starter, dessert and wine was also very nice. Sadly our main course of lamb was tough and inedible. We mentioned this to the waitress but she just shrugged her shoulders and said Oh! We also mentiioned it to the receptionist in the morning and got more lor less the same response. We won 't be back

Dinner was wonderful and the restaurant staff were professional and friendly. The grounds were beautiful. Our room was tired but comfy and the bathroom was great. The welcome at reception was a little lacking and it generally felt like a place with huge potential waiting to be realised.

We were so looking forward to visiting this châteaux and whilst there were good bits there were also disappointing bits… We were allotted a room in the old and historic house/chateaux which was little forbidding. When I managed to winch open the front door which was extremely heavy there was a smell of cigarette smoke which took me by surprise …. Unpleasant. There is another review on TripAdvisor mentioning the smell of smoke. There is a grand staircase which was showing it’s age and needs herring up. Our room was very large. No facility for making tea and coffee. I wondered if it was because there were no plugs in a safe place to have a kettle which would have constituted a fire hazard. Bed and pillows were very good. Bedside table only on one side one, and a kind of shelf/ cubby hole for the other side… which was a stretch to access if you wanted a sip of water in the night. However the shower room had been recently updated… and a hot towel rail which is a plus when the towels are medium sized and nice to have them dry and warm for the next use. We had arrived early so we could take advantage of the many hectares which are advertised for our use… however, no obvious paths, no signage apart from a couple of notices on trees saying no entry! We had been in the car for two days and were longing for a good stomp. We then had tea in the reception, which is pleasant… staff are friendly and do a good job. Dinner was excellent and I had prewarned them that I have food intolerances which they had prepared for which was really nice. I would not stay there again, but I’m sure it will suit lots of people! My three stars are based on the bathroom, bed and pillows, the dinner and friendliness.

We wanted a place to celebrate a special birthday, and picked up the fact that Chateau de Perigny was a short distance away from where we were staying. Interestingly, I was nearly put off by a few of the reviews available online, which suggested that it was 'tired'. In the event our room was clean and had a stunning view with a balcony. The place is a bit 'wonky', but that is the charm. It is authentic. The staff were fantastic, the food was very good, and the amenities, especially the pool area were excellent. We will go back there.
