Riverside Sun

I had booked this hotel to celebrate a birthday and I was bit appalled at the staff's attitude when I arrived. Southern Sun is all about friendly staff and good service, however, the staff at this hotel had a 'can't do' attitude which I was not impressed with. I had asked for a lighter/matches to light the birthday cake candle and the staff made it seem like it was impossible to get a lighter or even borrow one to light the candle. I did manage to speak to the manager and he did assist me with lighting the birthday candle though this was not the first incident where the staff didn't want to assist. I think overall this hotel should focus on training their everyday staff on how to be pleasant and friendly towards guests as we do pay to stay there and we also pay to receive good service as well. On another note Well Done to the chefs as the food was delicious. The breakfast was impressive as I appreciated the variety and the quality of food provided. I had ordered room service a few times and I was more than impressed with the food!

We normally enjoy relaxing on the banks of the river and have done so many times. Upon this visit we noticed a decline in service. Which is normally impeccable. We stayed for 2 nights and on the 2nd night had the loudest neighbors in 3 different rooms who went to bed only around 3am. I don't think I will be coming back too soon after this experience.

An hours drive and you can leave behind the hustle of the city and work n school. We visit here a few times in the year just to rejuvenate n relax. A short drive but really feels like you are far from home when y sitting on the peaceful banks of the river. Food is really good as well and lots of restaurants and stores close by

Very lovely clean place on the Vaal River bank with beautiful gardens.The staff is kind and attentive,Melissa at reception,winderful lady.Lebohang at the poolside bar very helpful and friendly to all guests.John at the evening buffet,is a true gentleman and was hoing out of his wsy.DOWNSIDE;Management must be decisive and deal with rowdy and disruptive guests who were there as a big family.They wererude to staff and pushing other guest around.Its not fair.Otherwise the manager must resign or take a transfer as it seem this occurs frequently.Staff says they fear head office.Other than thst beautifulfor relaxation

The hotel is located on the river bank. Their hotel has clean facilities and plenty parking. The pool area is lovely and is great for private events. Nearby there is a local market and water activities. There are boat rides for small to large groups. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and serviced daily.

Overall stay - disappointing. Room needs upgrading. Shower should have a bigger screen to prevent bathroom flooding. Room was the most disappointing part of the stay. Room aircon is a disaster. So loud that you cannot sleep with it on. Service - excellent from reception to pool side staff to restaurant staff. Food - buffet breakfast and dinner very good. Checkout - couldn't process a refund on my credit card, still struggling 2 weeks later. I don't understand the 3 stars for this hotel, should be rated 2 stars and the Sun removed from the name.
