Red Roof Inn Utica

Nice clean hotel. Good breakfast.

I needed a clean, comfortable and reasonable place after a long day's drive-and-work. Despite the unevenness in quality of some chain hotels, this proved at the top of its game. Everything worked, everything was clean, everything was safe, everyone working there was pleasant. I could not ask for more.

booked this hotel because it was midway to returning home. It was down a lane past a closed up building--another hotel nearby, we noticed was also boarded up. What was probably once a beautiful hotel, is no longer. I didn't feel totally safe in the surroundings. I do not like outdoor rooms which these were. Everything inside the room was, not so much dated as it was worn. there were threads hanging off the worn chair. One drawer barely opened. The bed sheets were questionable. At least the air conditioner worked and the tv. Didn't use the shower, but when tested water pressure seemed like it would be okay. There was a towel hanging off the back of the door-was it fresh or used...didn't check it to find out. There was no elevator to use. Staff were accommodating. Check in and check out quick.

We have stayed at many Best Western’s with no issues. However, this motel is overpriced, dated, not clean (multiple hairs in the bathroom/tub), my wife killed two spiders on the bed. We woke up to a woman throwing up in the parking lot in front of a parked car. There are many other options in Utica, if they’re booked up, keep driving.

Hotel was run down when we arrived. The first room we were given was gross. The linen clearly had not been changed. Sheets and pillowcases were stained. They gave us a second room which was only slightly better. The AC in the second room was not working, bedspread was dirty and stained. There were cigarette burns in the comforter. Left and went down the street to a different hotel.

Terrible. One room reeked horribly of cigarettes, another room reeked of mold/ mildew. I seriously regret staying and will steer clear of this hotel. (They have the gall of making you sign a no-smoking agreement upon check-in.) 200 words required! I highly recommend that you do not stay at this hotel. It was a waste of money. My belongings and clothing stank so bad; I left some stuff in my car to avoid too much contamination. If you're still reading: please be warned. Check the room before you pay.

My friend and I stayed at the Utica Red Roof Inn, room 207, in early August 2023. I was skeptical due to some reviews concerning cleanliness but decided to give it a try. Check-in was a breeze. Both beds in the room were clean and comfortable; sink, shower, towels and toilet were all spotless. A/C was a bit noisy but I sleep with earplugs so it was not too disruptive. Our room had no microwave or minifridge, but that did not matter to us as we already ate dinner and ate out for breakfast in the morning. The manager (I believe his name is Justin?) was polite and professional. Overall we were satisfied with our stay!

Dubious business practice: When we signed in at the office, we were told that we had to check the box for use of the safe in our room, which costs $2. We were told that we had to request that the $2 be removed from our bill when checking out. And that if we didn't make this request, the $2 charge would stay on our bill. When we were checking out, I asked for removal of the $2.18, and this was done. I consider this practice highly dubious. The Red Roof Inn is a budget hotel; the AC unit was loud. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, when we arrived at our room, there was trash right outside our door. I went to the office and reported the trash, and the office person said they do clean daily but they had many contractors staying there and the contractors probably left the trash. She also said she would clean up the trash, but it was still there the next morning (photo). This Red Roof does not offer breakfast. Given the experience that this Red Roof provides, I think the daily charge of $139.40 + tax is excessive.

- Cockroaches in the room. Later found they come from a crack in the seal between a tub and the floor. - Sticky laminate floor. Sticky! Nobody washed it since Reagan administration. - Dog hairs everywhere. In the chair crevices, on the AC unit, glued to the floor. - Years and years worth of dust on the lamps over the beds. Nobody dusted them ever. - Someone's dirty napkin between the mattress and the wall. - Clogged bath tub. After taking a quick shower water took 30 min to drain. - And lastly, a note from a housekeeping, stating that they "take pride in their work" and ask for gratuity. I rest my case. Avoid this mismanaged nightmare.
