The Countryside Udawalawe

We only stayed here for one night. For the price it was a very nice little place. The bungalow was spaceous and comfortable with a little balcony to sit out on. The pool had been put in fairly recently and was really big and clean. All the plants and grounds were well maintained and attracted lots of tropical birds. We did the safari through the hotel which was organised well. It is about 10-15min drive from the entrance of the park. We ate dinner on the first night and breakfast after the safari, which was all good. They are in the process of building a restaurant so that they can offer a better range of food. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they organised our transfer to and from Udawalawe which all went smoothly. Chatting with one of the staff in the evening, he seemed really proud of what they had built and keen to expand the business and offer guests a good experience. I would definitly recomend for a budget, no frills stay. Great value for the price!

Would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed for one night & did a 6 hours morning safari which the hotel organised for us. The room was lovely and clean with a fridge, kettle and aircon and a spacious bathroom. The pool area is stunning. The staff are so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. They are currently building a restaurant which we can’t wait to return and try!

Such a lovely place, we even had it all to ourselves for one day. The pool is amazing and very clean! The staff were so attentive and even sorted us an early morning safari, coconuts and extra food/drinks. The breakfast and dinner is also very delicious!!! Absolute bargain for the price as well!

We were conveniently picked up from our previous accommodation and arrived at the The Countryside Inn with a warm welcome. Our room was spotless, everything worked as it should and the pool and garden were very well kept. Very convenient location for Udawalawe national park and a 10min walk to the elephant transit house. Food was tasty and plenty of it and all staff were helpful and friendly. A special thanks to Thissa for safely driving us around! Would highly recommend.

This is a great location for Udawalawe National Park. The countryside villas are basic but clean and comfortable and very good value for money. They have a fridge, air con and a safe. The swimming pool in the garden is a welcome touch and has sun loungers around it. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. They will arrange transport to the park for the safari. We had a private safari in the afternoon which we really enjoyed despite getting caught in a thunder storm. If you don't want the evening meal there, nearby is a nice restaurant called the Hungary Monkey, which is also next to the elephant rehabilitation centre. We enjoyed our night there! 

We stayed one night at the Countryside hotel. We were impressed by the small, intimate setting of the hotel. There is a beautiful pool and we were fortunate to see a bright blue Kingfisher dipping in for a drink! The room was very comfortable with effective a/c and wifi. The evening meal was simple but filling. The hotel is conveniently located for safaris and visits to the elephant orphanage. The service from Dushan and Rasika was friendly and polite. They went out of their way to be attentive, bringing my wife a green mango with salt and chilli which she hadn’t tasted since childhood! They also went to a local merchant and brought us some coconut-spoons when we said that we were looking for some to take home.
