Valamar Obertauern

Had an absolutely fabulous stay at Valamar for a ski and walking week. Food was fabulous, rooms were lovely, great skiing, easy access to a number of ski lifts but most of all the staff were incredible! So friendly, helpful, personable and made us feel at home. Special shout out to Stipe, Francia, Admir and Branimir for everything they did for us this week - thank you!

The staff was friendly, the reception efficiënt, the food, both breakfast and dinner were good,even culinairy and the rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel is at less than hundred meters from the first slopes and less then five minutes from the main après ski.

I had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Valmar in Obertauern. The staff was exceptionally friendly and always ready to help. A special thanks to concierge Franica Radić, who was very helpful in answering my questions about cross-country skiing. She also suggested some trails that suited my skill level and gave useful tips that made my experience more enjoyable. The food was excellent, with a good variety of options, and I enjoyed every meal. The spa facilities were also a great way to relax after a day outdoors—clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would gladly return in the future.

The hotel is very well located. The hotel is very clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and caring. The food was great. Franica in particular was very attentive and answered all our questions patiently. Special thanks to Franica. We hope to come again, thank you very much.

The Valamar is Croatian run and staffed, this is not a traditional Austrian family hotel. That said, there is plenty to like about the hotel. It is well located in Obertauern for the slopes and generally very well run. The staff are friendly (in the main) and it is kept nicely clean and tidy. The food can be a bit hit and miss - deserts excellent but main courses occasionally trying too hard and failling - but generally pretty good for the price. The sound insulation is not the best and sound does carry through the corridors and floors but again generally acceptable unless you end up with a room near the spa. We have stayed there a few times now but sadly likely not again. The reason is that this hotel is now very definitely a family hotel first and foremost and no longer ideal for couples or friend groups, unless you have a very high tolerance for children anyway. It always used to attract a mixed crowd of families, couples and adult groups, which was great but this has shifted very significantly towards families with young children. There are children running and screaming at breakfast, afternoon tea, during dinner, in the spa, and even up and down the corridors well into the evening. They were also given free reign to finger and/or sneeze over food on the buffet. It was not pleasant at all at times. Obviously, some families will love the hotel for being so welcoming to them, which is fair enough. But do think twice if you are looking for a romantic or more adult focused hotel while skiing as this will not be the wisest choice.

We’ve stayed at Valamar before on several occasions and love the friendly staff, excellent customer service, great ski slope access, and pool/spa facilities. However, on our recent visit we felt it has now become more family-focused, so couples seeking a quiet, relaxing stay may feel it less suited to them.
