Brevard and Cashiers are even closer and both offer fabulous shopping, art, and dining. Brevard Music Center offers evening concerts from May to the end of August. Cashiers also has outdoor live music in Summer. The thespians at The Historic Flat Rock Theatre provide wonderful evenings out. For a more local experience, head to the Lake Toxaway Community Center on Friday nights for western NC Bluegrass and a home-cooked meal to boot! Transylvania County boasts 250 known waterfalls! Pisgah and Nantahala National Forest are minutes away and there are many waterfalls and trails in each. Gorges State Park (10 minutes away) has waterfall trails that range from half a mile to 5+ miles. Just 20 minutes away, Whitewater Falls has a quarter mile paved path that gently rises to a spectacular view of the tallest waterfall east of The Rockies. You shouldn’t stop there, though! The stairs to the right lead down to a viewing platform whose view rivals any in the world. These are the closest hiking opportunities, however, there are 247 more waterfalls to explore within an hour! Shopping is minutes away in either direction. Within a tenth of a mile, there is a lovely market with staples, a good wine/beer selection, and local organic meat, produce, and dairy products. Next door to the Toxaway Market is a quaint, family-owned pizza place! Just across the street is a coffee/ice-cream/gift shop - something for EVERYONE!
