Just returned from an 11 night stay at the TLH Carlton. Had a fantastic time. Although travelling by myself, the hotel staff made me feel welcome and it was great to do my own thing! I usually stay at the Toorak but this year it was full so the Carlton was chosen. I actually enjoyed the change of hotel and I found the staff and hotel were great overall! Torquay and surrounding areas are fantastic, and you’ll always find something to do. There’s also a fantastic daytime activities program if you did need something to do. I booked direct.. benefitted from a free car park and on arrival went to reception to register, I was greeted by a great receptionist who I recognise was in the Toorak for the last few years. I arrived early morning as to avoid morning traffic and started my holiday early on arrival day, but of course I could use the hotel facilities and car park even though I was here before check in time. Room: The room was nicely appointed on the 2nd (top) floor which was quite large and had a super king bed, and a sea view. The room was clean, with biscuits provided alongside Tea & Coffee and a small TV. Bathroom old fashioned but good enough and clean. My only criticism with the room would be the towels are too small. Please provide bigger towels. Also lack of bedside plugs.. fortunately I brought my own extension lead. Restaurant: I opted for dinner bed & breakfast. Each evening the menu had some good choices (although I notice the starters were the same on several days).. there was also the pot in for a supplemental dish if the main choices weren’t for you. Main courses were plentiful with vegetables served alongside the main dish each evening. Breakfast is buffet style help yourself. Disappointingly the orange juice is squash.. despite asking several times for fresh juice they said it isn’t available (and on one occasion I was told it is fresh!). Also no mushrooms at breakfast. Could do with better breakfast sausages too - these ones are cheap! But overall breakfast good enough, great bacon, eggs, croissants on request, fruit salad fresh! The staff in the restaurant are all quite young. Lead by Storm the restaurant manager who is friendly and clearly knows what he’s doing. The only day I had an issue was my 3rd night, the staff seemed to ignore me.. clearing tables around me but not taking my order. I was there for 1hr30 on that evening.. for 1 person in a hotel this is disappointing. Fortunately after speaking with Storm this was rectified on further evenings.. service much more efficient and an enjoyable evening meal. Tom the restaurant supervisor also friendly. Bar: Molly (who I recognise from previous stays in the Toorak) was great. As was the lady in charge. Always friendly and welcoming. Fantastic cocktails were created on my last night.. recommend the red Prosecco fizz! Resort: Great swimming pools, good entertainment (mostly) and a great range of bars and restaurants. The spa is also fantastic, including a fire & ice. Which you
