We love the Sloop, down a long lane from the main road but on gorgeous Bantham beach. The best beach in S Devon. Lovely pub. Super service. Log firs always stocked and lit and the best mussels ever. A good mixture of locals and visitors. Pig out on the food and then have a wonderful walk on the beach overlooking Burgh Island.

A lovely impromptu early dinner at The Sloop Inn, following a sea swim at the beach whilst on a weekend break away. The bar man was super friendly and welcoming, with a good sense of humour, adding to the relaxed vibe. We ordered the mushroom scotch egg starter which was delicious, followed by scampi and mussels. Both were equally delicious, well presented and plentiful. All in all, a very enjoyable meal. We will be sure to return if back this way in the future.

Regarding paulajt2017 review on 9th October. I was sat at the bar when you came into the pub. The staff at the pub were more than courteous to you. Jamie answered you as quickly as possible when you came to the bar, even when he was trying to serve an elderly gentleman with parkinsons. Clicking your fingers at the waitress was also completely out of order, and actually thoroughly rude. You need to learn manners if you use the hospitality industry. I hope you are not seen here again, as if I had been working, I would have thrown you out myself.

Found this gem last year and go as often as I can when visiting the area. Came in this week a couple of times and the food never fails to be top notch nor does the service. Went with Jamie’s food recommendations and he was right……. Such a great atmosphere and team

Most unpleasant evening at The Sloop. Totally ignored by an awful server with a nasty attitude behind the bar. Noticed he was over pleasant with some people and very rude to others - we were in the ‘others’ category! We were kept waiting a very long time for a couple of burgers and had actually decided to leave when they arrived! Not an experience we will be repeating even though we eat out a lot in the area - def def wouldn’t recommend 👎🏻

We live in Devon. Decided to go to The Sloop for lunch on Sunday. Haven’t been for a little while. My husband had the fish cakes. Presentation was great. He said they were the best fish cakes he’s had. I had roast beef. It was a wow. Carrots, parsnips, shredded cabbage with bacon lardons, crispy roast potatoes. 3 slices of very pink beef ( you didn’t need a knife) A massive Yorkshire pudding. The best roast I’ve had in a long time. (Not as good as mine though!! ) Andy keep up the good work! See you again soon.

Had high expectations of a delicious dinner when we booked, first issue was although it was a quiet Tuesday evening our food took ages to arrive. When it did arrive the chips were lukewarm, portion size not great and the steak my son wanted well done arrived rare. We sent that back and that then didn't arrive until everyone else had finished. Poor quality and high prices in our opinion. We wouldn't recommend and we won't be going back. Not a patch on The Village Inn at Thurlestone

We always eat here when we stay in nearby Thurlestone - and will continue to do so. The place is run very well and the quality of the food is really consistent - moreover the staff are away cheerful and welcoming. It can be really busy and in high season worth booking a table . On this occasion, however, the pub wasn't "rammed". Our food was pub food cooked excellently and well presented. Always thoroughly recommended.

Had some great times in the Sloop but this visit was poor! Food was well below the standard of what we have had in the past. The second night of our visit we actually walked out and went back to our accommodation as the bar staff totally ignored us and carried on chatting with other people. We love this pub and village please get the standard back so we can enjoy our next visit.
