The Sloop Inn

A great pub, lovely staff, especially Jamie :-) and fantastic food. The Ploughmans was the best we've had in years and reasonably priced too, thoroughly recommend plus food of an evening great too. Can't recommend highly enough, a wonderful location, beautiful area and surroundings too.

We had a decent family meal in the Sloop last week. Good atmosphere, we were attended too regularly throughout our meal and the staff were friendly. Parking is horrendous so be prepared to drop off passengers and find a space!! Really nice pub dinner - without being spectacular - would book again though :)

We went to the Sloop Inn last year and I had the best fish and chips I have ever had. I was compelled to go back today and I was thrilled to say still the best fish and chips I have tasted. The batter was crispy on the outside and the size and thickness of the locally caught fish was very good and very fluffy. I took half home with me. The chips had a non invasive coating that made them really crispy and I think homemade tartare sauce. The cost was average but the quality was excellent. Paul who was serving us and very attentive to making sure we had a good time and a good meal.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the b&b and it was so run down , there was no staff and everywhere in the b&b smelt of smoke. The food was greasy and overpriced ,and for dinner when we went the food was overpriced and we ordered our food at half 7 and got it at half 9 , my friends fish pie was just liquid and tasted very bland and the waiters were so rude and it had bad service . Finally the view was ruined by the sight of the missing workers smoking on the roof and the only good part was the location itself .Disappointing .

Reading some reviews I cannot believe we were in the same pub! The barman did not welcome our family and friends. Insisted that both families ordered together, not separately then split bill after eating. What on earth…..? We moved into bare courtyard with some tables and had to go back into pub due to dreadful smell from drains. The food was not good, no one asked if everything ok. Total disaster. Barman disinterested and verging on rude-dreadful hospitality. Can only think they get business due to position just up from fabulous beach.

We love the Sloop, down a long lane from the main road but on gorgeous Bantham beach. The best beach in S Devon. Lovely pub. Super service. Log firs always stocked and lit and the best mussels ever. A good mixture of locals and visitors. Pig out on the food and then have a wonderful walk on the beach overlooking Burgh Island.
