A really nice country pub with accommodation on the Hadrians Wall Path. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Staff were very helpful and super friendly. Food in the eveniong was very good and reasonably priced and a very nice breakfast included in the price. Only had one night here but I would definitely return if I was staying in the area. Thanks all for a very pleasant stay.

A lovely community pub with excellent ales and a great kitchen that happens to also have cozy rooms above—all prerequisites if you’re walking the Wall. Our room was clean and comfortable and though the pub was a delightful din of laughter and talk, upstairs when we turned in it was blissfully quiet. Highly recommend!

A nice inn on Hadrian's path - also the establishment of choice to grab a bite to eat in the very small village of Gilsland. The inn room is perfectly serviceable and well kept, a clean small room with a good (small) bathroom, and the food in the pub is much better than average - the food here is really good and a notch above the typical pub meal. A friendly welcome and good staff (they know walkers) help to make you feel at home. If you're walking the wall, I recommend booking this property - and do yourself a favor and book your meal table at the same time - there are not a lot of evening options around here!

Good location if you are walking the Hadrians Wall Trail, as it’s literally less than 2 minutes walk off route. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were lovely. But the winner for me was the food provided in the bar/restaurant. Hands down the cheese soufflé was the most gorgeous thing ever! Fingers crossed they get their railway station, which will make this Inn a even more perfect location for guests.

We stayed here for one night while on the Hadrians wall path. Accommodation is good and clean and food was very nice. Breakfast was great with nice ingredients. The lady working when we arrived was fantastic and very helpful (sorry we didn’t catch her name).

We had lovely stop off here for a couple of pints last week whilst walking Hadrians wall, the staff were amazing. The girl behind the bar (wish I'd caught her name) did a little bit of shopping for us and dropped at our next destination, this was such a kind gesture and we thankyou very much,

Decent little pub with B&B accommodation. Reasonable sized room and en-suite but slightly tired. Staff friendly and helpful and our evening meal was good. Breakfast the next morning was nice and freshly prepared. Would 9 stay here again? Would probably look for something slightly better.

My wife had wanted to visit Hadrian's Wall for the last 70 years - finally we made it. A six hour drive3 from Norfolk but the minute we arrived, the drive was worth it. We were warmly welcomed to the Samson Inn - to my mind a real old country inn. Our room was very good indeed as was the en suite. Everything was spotlessly clean. We had evening meals at each of our 3 nights stay, enjoying the beautifully cooked food on each occasion. Breakfasts were everything for everyone - an excellent start for those travellers who were walking the wall. The service we received from all the staff who multitasked so well, was absolutely excellent. I did say on leaving that if I lived nearer, I would be a regular at the Samson Inn. Even so , I wouldn't rule out another six hour drive some time. Thank you Samson Inn for a delightful weekend. Value for money? Could not be better

Room was nice and practical. Clean and tidy and quaint. The food was really good and good value. There was good choice on the menu. The breakfast was very nice too. The staff were friendly and helpful.
