The Westleton Crown

The staff are super friendly and helpful, we were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived. Our room (small king) was luxurious with every comfort. The beds were Super comfy. There is a wonderful ambience in the bar, and the restaurant did not disappoint, with a wide selection of breakfast options and an excellent dinner menu. There were lovely little extra touches, like the Canapes, served at 5.30.pm and our Canine friends are catered for on a 5 star level. A joy to stay here.

Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch. The ambiance in the restaurant was good, the tables well spaced, three ladies managing the restaurant (sorry, didn't get your names!) were all friendly, attentive and professional and the lunch was very good/excellent (vegetables were excellent, my wife's pork was excellent, my beef was good).

I practically never leave negative reviews but I do think that my points are worthy of a mention. I have left things for over a month to calm down and see if my feelings softened but having just returned from a technically similar pub/hotel four night GLORIOUS stay elsewhere last weekend I can clearly see a marked difference. We booked this as a treat night away as a couple based on reviews and prior known good reputation. 1) We stayed for one night during a period of quite hot weather and were allocated a minuscule room (an attic room roughly above the reception desk). It was stifling! The only windows were about a foot square, closed on arrival and contributed nothing toward any ventilation. They were difficult to access due to the roll top bath across the window and my partner had to climb into the bath to open them. We opened the ensuite door and put the light/extractor fan on and that made no difference either. A small desk fan, also failed to make any difference. Despite cooling down outside, it was so hot in the room all night we just couldn't sleep and I would have happily gone home. 2) The ensuite was of poor standard and cramped. The underside of the toilet pan rim had a thick black line of dirt/gunk around it (yeuk!) and the shower control had been makeshift repaired. My partner is not hugely tall (5'11"/6ft), but the shower cubicle was so small in height he couldn't stand under the shower and was hitting his head/face on the shower head). 3) There were inadequate mains sockets (or rather ill placed) we had to charge our phones overnight across the room by the door. 4) We had roast dinner in the restaurant that evening and despite good reviews it was absolutely not worthy. Sous vide meat which had seemingly not been caramelised for flavour afterward and whilst soft, it was tasteless. We were unsure how the vegetables tasted since the whole lot was absolutely swimming in a vat of thick gravy that had the distinct strong flavour of gravy granules drowning everything else out. We didn't bother with dessert. Breakfast was adequate. It would be unfair not to acknowledge that all the staff in the bar and waiting at tables were lovely. The waitress who kindly took away our plates after the roast dinner, was clearly concerned that we had not enjoyed the meal - obvious to see by the volume of food left on the plates, coldly sitting in the congealing gravy. She asked me for genuinely comment which I very politely gave as above in point 4, but this was not followed up by anyone else's concern. I also feel that the website should mention the sheer staircase one must scale to access the bedrooms. Not suitable at all for anyone mobility impaired. I'm very sad to leave this review, we came home so disappointed and had completely wasted our money. I have not posted the picture of the toilet rim out of concern at the appearance on a public website, but can supply if management cannot locate the toilet in question! The Crown might be a pleas

Our room was in main building with a fire escape door onto flat roof which provided added light and fresh air which I particularly like, bed comfy and bathroom spacious. Relaxed atmosphere in garden area, as already mentioned dining room had a wait for food but as not in a hurry wasn’t a problem on our visit. Ordered pork chop with pineapple and egg, but looked and tasted of gammon - maybe I’m wrong? Breakfast was enjoyable- lived up to Chestnut group experience and offered Good value compared to some of their other establishments

Went for dinner, nice surprise on entering, very nice and spacious. Disappointed in the meal, my fault should have read the ingredients better, but pineapple with a pork chop? Didn't work for me but everything else was fine. Would go back as staff were friendly.

Wow, what a stunning lunch we had. Booked online in the morning, table for 4 and 2 large dogs. Duly arrived and had a choice of tables in the conservatory, a very pleasant large room. Our waitress, Vanessa was a great communicator - we ordered most of the smaller plates and ended up with a kind of meze. Terrific repartee Vanessa, we will certainly be returning for more!

This was our 9th pub visit in the group and we stayed overnight. Once again beautifully decorated ( though our shower didn’t work well, but our friends did ) . The main issue is the food it’s very ordinary, nothing inspiring and one again all felt a bit like it had been heated up and not cooked fresh. Most places can now cook amazing burgers but the one here was so over cooked it was tough. I wouldn’t recommend eating here if , like us, you enjoy good tasty food. The staff were lovely ( bar check in ) , they were friendly and fun . The restaurant staff in particular stood out. It is a drive to nearby places of interest. We won’t go back

Stayed for two nights. Room was comfortable and there was a good choice at breakfast with food well cooked. Unfortunately, the restaurant had equipment problems the night we were supposed to have dinner so we were referred to their sister establishment, The Ship at Dunwich. This was a huge disappointment - poor food and service.

Lovely little hotel. People very friendly, rooms really clean and comfortable. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere with lots of charm. Food excellent. The only drawback is the amount of time it takes to get served at dinner. The service was very slow.
