Miss Clara by Nobis, Stockholm, a Member of Design Hotels™

We had several problems with this hotel. Its location is quite remote from any attractions and a good 20 minutes walk to the old town. Our room was basic and minimalist with little storage space. The toilet was literally within about 3 inches of the shower and the floor stained. Worse, our room looked out onto a small quadrangle. The other three sides were all high-rise apartments/buildings that had glass exteriors. Opposite us and about 7 stories higher, a restaurant with outside seating looked directly into our room. There was no privacy. The positive to this hotel was the staff who were friendly and very helpful. I would not recommend this place and if you were staying here, I would definitely look at your room first before accepting it.

We had anticipated for a Marriott hotel to be up to a certain standard especially given that the hotel is on par on price with others such as the Nobis Hotel or something of similar class. Unfortunately, despite having been upgraded at check in to a larger suite, we have been met with a number of problems at this hotel. Mind, we stayed for 3 nights, we were Marriott Gold members, and were given the corner room facing the streets at the level right above the lobby. Unfortunately, each night we were faced with significant noise from the streets, multiple cars revving, people from downstairs having loud conversations, doors banging. During our last night, which fell on a weekend, these were even worse, we barely were able to sleep despite our ear plugs (which we don’t ever wear ear plugs to sleep normally). For a two occupancy, we also were not given more than one towel during our last day, a little odd for a hotel of this class. Unfortunately our conservation with hotel management that was done through Marriott as an intermediary (since we booked through there) was not handled very well either since it felt like they tried to close the case quickly without any resolution. To keep the review unbiased, a couple positives, front desk staff is very nice. Our requests for water or towels were tended to quickly and hospitably. Location is great, about a 5 min walk to the subway station although from Stockholm Central station it’s quite a decent distance walk. We appreciated the upgrade, although this room should definitely need work on its noise management especially.

The staff are the big selling point for Miss Clara. Approachable, knowledgeable and welcoming they make the difference. Nothing is too much trouble, you can ask them literally anything and they will give you a sensible answer that draws on their love of Stockholm. They are a big plus. The hotel itself is scandi chic personified - white linen, dark wood, beautiful toiletries, there is lots to like. The rooms are on the small side (think Paris proportions) but functional and there’s everything you need for a short break (we stayed for 2 nights). The location is good (an extended walk to the waterfront) department stores and bars. Like any major city you are spoiled for choice and Uber is your friend. Stockholm itself is laid back. There’s plenty to do, or do nothing at all. Our top tips are to explore Gamla Stan (old town), waterfront, and Djurgarden. An archipelago tour is a good way to spend an afternoon but it’s not a must see (the topography is lovely if not spectacular).

Good location but the rooms are very basic for the price with small bathroom. Our sink had no closure or plug and despite asking twice during our stay, it was not fixed. There are no amenities in the room apart from hand wash and shampoo etc. Breakfast was served until 10 on Fridays but when we went down at 950, the woman was rude, telling me they close in ten minutes. They were already clearing up and we were made to sit in the bar area not in the restaurant and eat asap. It cost £40 for two to be rushed out and not allowed to sit in the restaurant. We ate out at the Greasy Spoon nearby after that. Much better choice, food and service! On check out, I was not asked if everything had been ok with our stay. Very poor

This is an awful hotel that doesn't meet Marriott affiliation standards. It's not that the room is supersmall or cramped; that would be alright under certain circumstances. Rather, there is no 24-hour security coverage; the desk is unattended overnight. The bed, contrary to the description for "deluxe corner," is not a king bed, but two twin beds uncomfortably smashed together. The bathroom has a completely transparent glass door and wall (when I say "glass," I mean "glass," not translucent or semi-opaque frosted glass), so you get to watch and hear your traveling companion go to the bathroom; spouses don't find this particularly romantic, but, of course, many people travel with a friend or child, and so this feature, completely absent from the website, is completely unacceptable. The room is on a busy main road, which would be OK if it had sealed double-glazed windows, but the thin windows barely close correctly, meaning you hear noise all night. I've never had to abruptly leave a property, but after one night in this property, we left, and the perfectly friendly clerk did not seem at all surprised by this decision. It wasn't a matter of "speaking to the manager," because none of these problems were remotely fixable -- this hotel room is sold under false pretenses, and is a scam for $400 a night. It would be alright for, say, a super-budget hotel for very young, cash-strapped single people who don't mind a little adventure, but not as billed as a four-star Marriott property.

I always return to Miss Clara! The beds, the Scandinavian interior, the staff, the bathroom amenities from Byredo and yes the list goes on. Did I forget that they have the best pizzeria in town! Looking forward to my next trip to Stockholm and Miss Clara.
