We were disappointed that there is no working lift, and the rooms are spread over many floors with lots of flights of steps. The bar and reception are right at the bottom. Breakfast was VERY slow. You have to pre order and book a slot the night before, but even so we had to wait over half an hour for our food. They could be more generous with hot and cold drinks too - we were only allowed one of each. The room was comfortable and clean. Although it advertises itself as a bistro h th ere was no evening food

My boyfriend & I stayed overnight on July 6th & we’re very happy with our stay at Friars Wynd. Room was lovely; spacious & clean & we were provided with clean towels for our stay. Breakfast was included for us & it was delicious. Staff were found to be welcoming & friendly. I have 1 minor complaint & it was the shower in our room. We stayed in ‘Bute’ & even although I ran the shower for more than 10 minutes, the water remained cold & shower also did not drain very well. Other than that I would be happy to return to Friars Wynd

I need to start of with the negatives as there are more of these than positives. The hotel is run by children and I mean children and proven by the fact that some could not poor drinks because they were under age. There were several people behind the bar and the reception, that when you got there attention and interrupted them sorting out there play list and what they were going to do that night served you. I found one particular staff member dress code not in keeping with what you would expect in a hotel. The hotel itself is very tired has a lift but this is obviously out of date with modern specs or they just cant be bothered to repair it. The breakfast was not bad though I had to send back my poached eggs as they were hard boiled, being able to poach an egg is not hard to do. Otherwise the breakfast was not bad. It was at breakfast we encountered the only girl who showed some professionalism in her job. Yes the hotel is located well for the town centre and has a pay carpark at the rear of the hotel. Generally for the price I would not recommend.

I stayed with two friends in April on our annual weekend away. I have a few mobility issues and had rejected some lovely apartments as they had too many stairs. On entering Friars Wynd - through the bar/ bistro/ cafe- we had to climb 39 stairs to our two bed apartment. This should be made clear on booking. The apartment was lovely - tasteful decor and a decent velvet sofa bed- which we needed. The two double bedrooms were ideal. The bedding and towels were excellent quality. However- on closer inspection- the carpet needed a good vacuum and some of the furniture was very dusty. The kitchen cupboards were covered with greasy fingerprints . No proper dishcloths. One small sponge not fit for purpose. No bowls. No tea towels. There was a dishwasher, but it seems a waste to use with only a few dishes. A lot of the furniture was chipped. The bedding for the sofa bed was in a cupboard- but there was no duvet cover for the quilt, no pillow cases and no sheets. We requested bed linen and were given a duvet cover. My friend had to lie on a bath towel. The hotel is in an ideal position in the town- near the railway station and the shops- but it is noisy at the end of the street. Lots of drunken, rowdy youths seem to congregate there until @ 1- 2am. We had a lovely dinner one night and enjoyed our breakfasts. The hotel was very good value for money and was in an ideal position for visiting Stirling. Just a shame about some of the things mentioned above. All these issues could be sorted easily.

This only got a 2 because we were moved from our room into a two bedroom apartment. Otherwise I wouldn’t have stayed at all. You enter through a cafe which had a sign on the door saying the kitchen is closed. We were then taken up several flights of stairs to an attic room. The lift was broken, had we had heavy cases we would not have been able to carry them. The room was small and painted in very dark colours, but modern. Immediately it was clear the bathroom had not been cleaned. The toilet bowl was dirty and the sink and shelves had hairs and marks on them. The towels were rolled up and laid on the bed, but were damp with marks on them. The cleaner was called back to clean the bathroom while we were given complimentary drinks. On going back to our room I sat on my bed and noticed the pillow cases had dirty marks on them, as did the sheets! Once more I went down to the bar to ask for different bedding and I was asked to wait on the owner. After about one hour the owner appeared. We were only in Stirling for one night and we had now spent two hours waiting on a useable room. On arrival the owner moved us to a lovely two bedroom apartment. Breakfast was disappointing. No smoked salmon as pre booked, no avocado, no fruit, no cereal, no toast and jam. I believe the hotel is in the process of being sold. Hopefully, the new owners will address those problems, as it’s in an excellent location. The staff in cafe/reception were friendly and the decor in the cafe/breakfast room is lovely.

Started off well as parking available and only cost £2.30 as overnight is free and don't pay on a Sunday. Check in was simple and fast and the staff were very friendly. Room was big with good linens and lovely towels, bathroom was fitted well and good quality shower. The room needs some tlc and repainting but was clean and comfortable although the tea tray was lacking in tea bags and milk but a quick visit to the shop next door sorted that. We didn't eat dinner but popped in for a drink before going upstairs and again the staff were very friendly and good choice of drinks. Slept well as we stayed in the Bute room and it's very quiet. Breakfast was pre ordered (a particular pet hate of mine) and while the full Scottish breakfast was good, my order was wrong and I got 2 boiled eggs chopped up and one was almost raw which totally put me off, also only one slice of toast. You clearly aren't offered refills as none of the staff came back over to check on us or I would have sent the food back. Disappointing end to the stay but overall I would recommend for the price, location and friendliness of the staff.

Location of the hotel is fantastic 5 min walk to Stirling Jail and only 10 mins to Stirling Castle. Food gorgeous highly recommend the Scottish breakfast and staff are welcoming and friendly. Rooms are a bit dated and in need of decorating other than that lovely little hotel would def return
