What a beautiful historical treasure! This was our first time visiting Starkville, MS and we weren’t disappointed in large part thanks to this glorious B&B and especially the Innkeeper, Lynn. We booked a last minute trip to visit family attending MSU and had conducted limited research on the area & hotels. Due to a pet with special needs, we couldn’t stay at a typical hotel, so we were delighted when Lynn came to the rescue in accommodating our situation. We arrived at dusk to see this stunningly beautiful Antebellum architectural treasure. During our stay we learned of the historical significance of the Montgomery family, the renovations, and toured the main home / grounds extensively. Each suite is lavishly decorated with a mixture of period European and American antiques which enhanced the experience and atmosphere of the Montgomery Inn. It’s as though you are stepping back in time. The room we stayed in is called the Oakwood. My spouse says it was so comfortable that it reminded him of one of his favorite hotel bedrooms from the movie Groundhog Day. There is a unique entrance into the room as you were required to enter the bedroom by walking through the vanity area & main bathroom. However, there was also an entrance from the exterior of the house into the bedroom which we used often, once we got the hang of the 150+ year old door knob. Each independent suite is different and uniquely decorated. Some have very tall 14’ ceilings and some have more modern bathrooms than others. No matter what room you choose you can’t go wrong. The cottage was drop dead gorgeous, but be warned the ceilings are bit low. At 6’4” my spouse had to duck his head quite a bit, but he said he would still stay there in spite of the minor inconvenience. The beds were very comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and Lynn with her pup, Nyx, brought all the guests great joy. We definitely will be back & are already planning our next trip! Pro’s: -Historical charm -Location: Close to MSU, restaurants & shops. (Less than 1 mile drive) -Comfortable bed -Modern bathrooms -Relatively quiet in the rooms even with old wood floors. -Relaxing atmosphere -Lynn & her Westie Terrier, Nyx Con’s: -Some doorways are short & require you duck your head! -Outside lights are on all night for guests coming/going & shine into some of the windows. We placed a pillow in the transoms above the door to block the light. -Not a good fit for travelers who don’t enjoy antiques.
