Craven Heifer Hotel

I stayed for one night at the Craven Heifer at the end of May, prior to running in a nearby trail race. I quite often stay in rural pubs with my running and the Craven Heifer is one of the nicest I`ve stayed in to date. It`s an absolute bargain for what I paid, as I`ve stayed in many places that were much more expensive and nowhere near as nice. It`s a proper country pub, full of character, with really friendly staff, all set in a picture post card village. My room was, modern, spotless, comfy, quiet and I slept log. I had fish and chips for my evening meal, which were cooked the old fashioned way and were perfect, washed down with a couple of pints of perfectly kept Tetley`s Cask. My only regret, is that I didn`t get to sink a few more on the lovely little terrace area, that runs alongside the river at the side of the pub !!!! In in all all, a perfect stay and I wouldn`t hesitate to go back.

Just back from a two night stay at this lovely country pub/hotel. We arrived slightly later than the check in time after finishing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in a longer time than expected so the kitchen was unfortunately closed but Lindsey made us a chip butty anyway which was very much appreciated. After a few drinks we hobbled up the stairs to a very clean and well presented room. The next day we enjoyed more drinks sat by the river on the rear terrace before moving into the restaurant for a lovely meal, I highly recommend the steak and ale pie. All in all a very pleasant two night stay which I highly recommend to anybody doing the 3 peaks, just make sure you reserve a table if you want food as it gets booked up quickly. Called in for a coffee after a lovely walk to Stainforth Force but unfortunately our visit to Stainforth was spoiled by the "welcome" at the Craven Heifer. Despite the fact that the pub was very quiet we were told that they couldn't serve us some coffee. Do these establishments want business...I don't think so. Another example in a long list of poor hospitality we have experienced in our week long stay in the Dale's.

Called last Summer 2021 with a group of friends and the meals were excellent. Gluten free catered for and the service great. On the basis of this we had a trip out on 19th March this year and what a disappointment. Very pricey food for what we got. No gluten free bread bun to go with the burger and the burgers had to go back as not cooked enough. Benefit of the doubt for it is the start of the season and so we'll probably try them again in the summer and hopefully better.
