Sugar Beach a Viceroy Resort

So it's the Honeymoon in St Lucia after the Wedding in St Lucia. So you must spoil yourselves when you can. We was recommended this resort for a day visit. We came for lunch cocktails and mostly the Beach and a Snorkeling trip. We have not been disappointed. So the resort speaks for itself, 5 Star and you can see why, but thats not what this review is about. Many have already and many will in the future. My cousin and I came for the Snorkeling and we had a blast. Vendors Water Taxi's and Tours are on the beach. Offering a really good boat trip around the coast with two different locations to snorkel. Why we was being the men with flippers the ladies crashed at a beach bar drinking Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri. So all was happy. The guided boat tour was informative by our guide Al. We had a great time with the Snorkeling and would recommend this experience to anyone. The boat trip is also a very good opportunity to take some amazing pictures of the shoreline, cliffs and Piton's.

We had previously tried to go to Sugar Beach but had to cancel. We sent our daughter there for their Honeymoon so we had some familiarity. September is the slow season and rainy season at Sugar Beach. I was initially unhappy that I had to learn myself that the pool at Jalouise Restaurant were closed. I was on their website looking at restaurants and saw a ticker message come across the bottom that the pool was closed for a week or so while we were there. After booking all meals and scheduling transportation to/from the airport I finally asked that Concierge if this was true. Suggest in the future they should be telling customers this before their trip during any interaction. Enough of the slightly negative. I actually read numerous reviews before booking this trip is I had an idea about type of room, location, etc. We ended up with a 3 bedroom villa. I am hesitant to put the number as I know you can't request certain rooms but 117 is the bomb. Shout out to our butler Markenzie. What a polished and professional person. If you can afford it I highly suggest their residence program with a butler. The breakfast ladies were world class. Della (?) was especially good to us and remembered our names everyday. Kingsley is the man on the beach to take car of you. Margaritas were really good. Highly recommend the Spa including the steam room. We met James Wyndham, Managing Director, at the Managers Happy Hour. He is very professional and enjoyed our conversation. I really suggest attending the Managers Happy Hour as most of the their management team attends. They can answer questions and provide advice. My wife and I have been to most of the Caribbean Islands including going further down to Petit St. Vincent. Sugar Beach is special. This will become an annual trip for us. Thank you.

This is the best hotel I’ve ever been to, and I fear no experience will ever top it. We went here for our honeymoon. The service was amazing. Our butlers (Felicia and Samwed in shifts) were keen to our every need, even things we did not know we needed. Every day they checked on our plans and asked if we need restaurant or activity reservations. They even got great photos of us! The rooms were spacious and immaculate and private. Our private pool was just that, nobody could see us even if they tried, and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff at the onsite restaurants were so friendly. The food is some of the best I have had in my entire life and very fresh, which is unheard of at a buffet. Speaking of buffet, almost every night featured some type of themed-buffet dinner at one of the restaurants at the resort. Tandoori night featured some of the best Indian food I have had, and I am Indian! I wish I could go back just for the food. The breakfast buffet was also fresh and tasty with lots of variety. Do not fear that the hotel is 1 hour away from the airport. The resort made it very convenient for us by arranging private transportation to and from the hotel to airport.

Viceroy at Sugar Beach provides the ideal tropical getaway. It is nestled btw the Pitons which provide the ultimate backdrop. This is the best Viceroy resort that we have stayed. The service was exceptional. Both beaches were absolutely gorgeous with crystal clear water and white sand. The snorkeling along the Piton wall is the best we have ever done. Highly recommend it.

We stayed at Sugar beach as part of our St Lucian stay; 5 nights in a luxury villa with pool and it was beautiful. We had an uninterrupted view of the pitons which was incredible, the beach is stunning - although a little rocky to enter. The breakfast is sensational and was our favourite meal of the day. Gym was well equipped and the shuttle bus around the resort is needed and welcomed All the staff were welcoming and very helpful and definitely made the resort a 5* We stayed in the north for the second half of our stay and it wasn’t a patch on sugar beach - we would definitely recommend and return

There's no way I would not give this resort 5 stars. It's breathtaking, seriously the most beautiful place I've ever stayed. We stayed in one of the grand villas, and there's nothing like waking up in that pristine place and walking outside to the patio to that gorgeous view of the ocean and the Pitons. I traveled with my husband and 5-year-old, and we had a wonderful time. Some details for travelers I wanted to include, based on what I wanted to know going into this trip: BRINGING KIDS: The resort is VERY kid friendly, without it being the chaotic mess that some kid-friendly resorts are. It never felt loud or overrun with kids––pretty peaceful everywhere I went. There is a kids' club, and we did leave our daughter there for an hour one day, but it was mainly indoor activities (I think they made kinetic sand while there) rather than beach activities. So we ended up not using it much––but she was able to enjoy stuff like snorkeling and riding with me on the sea kayak, and of course using the pool. It was also easy for her to make friends with the other guests' kids, which was nice. All the restaurants had the same kids menu, which was nice. And the Grand Villa had a separate room with sleep sofa, so space-wise it was perfect. MOSQUITOS: A lot of the reviews mention the mosquitos, and as someone who attracts every mosquito in a mile radius, this gave me some anxiety going into the trip. When we arrived our Butler warned us about the mosquitos and advised us to keep the doors closed. I found the issue to be manageable. The errant mosquito would make it into our room, but it wasn't anything I haven't encountered at other resorts. They also provide Deep Woods Off in the room, so I just put that on whenever I went outside (also a citronella candle outside). They are the worst on the patios by the plunge pool, so if you plan to sit out there, lather up with spray (my daughter sat out there one morning without spray and came back in with about 25 bites). But with spray they didn't bother me. I didn't find them to be a problem by the pool or on the beach. TIPPING: I was so confused the whole time about when to tip and how much, mainly because the service is so good and people are constantly doing stuff for you. After the first day we ended up getting out a bunch of cash so we could tip. We tipped on top of the service charge at meals (and at breakfast, which was included in our package, we would do about $20-25). At the pool and beach there are people who set up your chair and umbrella and bring you towels; we didn't have cash the first day but after that would tip 5 or just add tip to drinks we ordered. There are shuttle drivers that take you everywhere. For excursions or transfers we tipped $20, for short rides either we didn't tip (seemed like most people didn't) or just like $2. Let’s start with all the Pros: This resort was absolutely beautiful! It reminded of Hawaii in the Caribbean. The Villas with infinity pools were stunning. The staff were very accommodating. The breakfast buffet was delicious with everything you could want for breakfast! The Bonte Mexican buffet and BBQ buffet were absolutely delicious. The Tandoori night at the Jaoiloise was great too. The Bonte had great live music nightly! The beachside food and beverage service was quick, and they never rushed you off the beach chairs. I managed to stay until 6:00pm one evening when the bugs weren’t so bad. The beach service had the best Pina Coladas I have had, and I travel to lots of islands. Many excursions can be scheduled from the concierge, and they do everything they can to accommodate your selections and schedule. The gym has everything you need for a full workout. The spa services we had were top notch! I really want to reiterate just how beautiful the views were from this resort, and the service was spectacular. Cons: If you travel during the rainy season, prepare for intermittent rainy days and LOTS of bugs!!!! There were mosquitoes everywhere!! We were eaten alive as soon as we checked into the open air lobby. We were eaten alive at breakfast every morning. We couldn’t sit outside to enjoy our beautiful patio and pool ever because the mosquitos were relentless. I drank my coffee staring out the window because sitting outside wasn’t a viable option. We used a ton of bug spray all day long. It was gross to have sunblock on top of bug spray constantly. My teen/young adult kids hated having to apply bug spray everywhere they went. On the beach, the sand flies and gnats were relentless. As soon as 4pm struck, the gnats were everywhere; and we all had to leave the beach. The gnats went in my ear, up my nose, in my eyes, and everywhere in between. It was very unpleasant and no bug spray could deter them. This resort requires a great deal of stair climbing and inclined walking. We had a Villa that was too far to walk in the rain and battling mosquitoes- so we had to take the vans everywhere on property. Most of the time, the vans arrived quickly. There were a few times the vans took longer, but scheduling pick up times took care of that issue most of the time. I had to adjust to the idea that this wasn’t really a walkable resort. If your Villa is up high, you can’t walk even in the best of weather and bug conditions. If you come during the dry season, I imagine this resort is a true paradise!!! I probably won’t ever get my kids to agree to come back as all they can recall about the trip was getting eaten alive and being covered in cortisone to treat the bites. I never left my room without bug spray and cortisone. *I want to add that we arrived 10 days after a hurricane and this might have made the bugs worse!

Our beachfront bungalow was perfect and our butler’s were wonderful and helpful. Love the resort! Expensive but worth the experience. All the staff was so friendly. Restaurants were hard to get into so reserve in advance. Bonte was my favorite.
