Clair Tappaan Lodge

Just back from a magical weekend at Clair Tappan lodge with my 8 year olds. Food was great, place was cozy and clean, and company was stellar! George, Mark and Collin are the best! They make you feel at home and taken care of. My kids had a blast sledding, making forts and throwing snowballs, while I snow shoed, read a book, puzzled and made new friends. Can't wait to go back!

It’s a hostel for God’s sake, built by SierraClub volunteers in 1930’s. Don’t try to compare it to modern American corporate vacation lodging. It’s like stepping back into a slightly modern version of a classic Tahoe timber lodge build by the hands of volunteers who also helped preserve the natural wonders we enjoy today. Price includes dinner, breakfast, bag lunch to explore the surrounding mountains

Super friendly place, with a real personal feel. Very simple accommodations, with great food and helpful staff. Price includes three meals. Great access to excellent mountain biking at Royal Gorge and Sugar Bowl. Will definitely be back, with family and friends.

Just horrible trying to reach a live human being to get a reservation. Come on guys . The on-line reservation system really sucks to find a bunk available. If you leave a message for the reservation desk NO ONE will ever call you back. I have no explanation or understanding why there is no common decency of the staff not call you back. Its a bit rude.

I love this place!! Warmest welcome, awesome staff, delicious healthy food with vegetarian options, and social atmosphere among like-minded guests who cherish the old-school experience of a classic Sierra Club lodge. I've even been there when I was the only guest, which was really cool, but I'd love for more people to know about this great option for ski trips and more. The location is perfect, minutes from Royal Gorge and Sugar Bowl, and there are also groomed trails for exploring the hills behind the lodge. I always look forward to returning!!! Big thanks to the great crew who take such good care of the lodge and all of us grateful guests.

I recently spent a week here working remotely and getting long lunch turns in at Sugar Bowl -- there was a huge storm that closed the highway a bunch so being a half mile from the resort made for pratically empty lift lines on the weekend and a foot of powder each day to ride! I was one of the only people staying at the lodge and felt like an absolute princess. I had read reviews about rooms being cold, so I was proactive and talked to the staff about my concerns being a cold sleeper - they brought me five extra blankets, a sleeping bag, and put me in a warmed bunk room that I had to myself! 10/10 can't wait to go back -- every single staff member was so kind and went out of their way for me (making sure the parking lot was plowed, lighting fires in the great room, etc.) DO NOT MISS DINNER! Because the dinner food was so amazing. My recommendation for others is to be communicative w/ the staff because it is a hostel situation so unless they're aware of something that's bothering you they can't really resolve it -- like how I approached my cold sleeping concerns. I was SO WARM each night as a result!
