WARNING! Landlady will not return deposit unless you give her a 5 star rating!
The location of the booking is not accurate. It does indicate the area, but not the specific apartment. After we called the landlady she immediately offered us a “free upgrade” for the inconveniences she caused. The apartment was in a bad condition, the toilet had issues and there were no towels. We are not too picky, so we made the best out of it. However, after our checkout she asked us to give her a 5 star rating. Since we did not want to lie, we decided not to give her a rating. When we asked her when we will receive the deposit back she said after she receives proof of our 5 star rating. Otherwise she will keep the deposit. Then she insisted that the “upgrade” is only free with the rating. When I complained to customer service, she claimed that my friends and I refused to check into our original booking because it was too high (6th floor). In reality, she never let us check into it and never mentioned paid upgrade or the condition. Furthermore, the “upgraded” accommodation was also on the 4th floor, which we didn’t mind. We don’t know where the original booking would have been but it was not consistent with the address provided in the first place and we neither refused to check in nor minded the 6th floor. Not that it was mentioned in the booking.
Originally we did not want to leave a review, as it wouldn’t have been positive, but seeing how she threatens us to keep our 300 RMB deposit which is almost the price of the accommodation, we decided to leave an honest review to help other potential guest from not getting scammed. It could be that this accommodation got good reviews from other guests because they gave into the threats and eventually just wanted to get their deposit back.
