I chose this hotel for two reasons.
First: it’s located very close to East China University. Second: the good breakfasts. That was the case before, when I stayed here previously. Unfortunately, the good breakfasts are now gone. Absolutely! Due to hotel renovations, breakfast is now limited to three pre-selected options, which must be ordered the night before for a specific 30-minute time slot. This is terrible and highly inconvenient. It’s a shame that the Ctrip website does not warn guests about this in advance.
As I mentioned, the hotel is currently under renovation. While this is noted on Ctrip, I didn’t expect the scale of the construction to be so massive. When you arrive, it feels like the hotel isn’t even operational: the first floor is a construction zone, covered in dirt and dust. Guests have to go up to the fourth floor. There are also issues with electricity and heating. I understand heating is a common problem in Shanghai, but when it’s +6°C outside, you’d expect to be able to use the air conditioning for warmth. Sadly, that’s not possible here.
On a positive note: the hotel staff remains as friendly and helpful as ever.
I realize renovations are meant to improve comfort for future guests, and temporary inconveniences are inevitable. But why isn’t the hotel management offering discounts during this period? That’s standard practice in such situations. Instead, room rates are the same as usual, even higher than before. In their response to this review, the management will likely write: *“Thank you for your feedback, we’re working hard for you, sorry for the inconvenience, maybe next time we’ll offer a discount.”* But this should be done immediately, not “later,” “next time,” “in a month,” or “in a year”!
It feels like the hotel management is trying to maximize profits without considering their guests. Had I known about the discomfort in advance, I would’ve chosen another hotel for my stay this time.
