Sfakian Horizon

The hotel is a 5 minutes up the hill of the restaurant area of Sfakian, parking is in front of the hotel. We had a room with a balcony and a nice sea view, the furniture was very simple but everything worked well. Breakfast was ok. There is a swimming pool but we did not use it.

I stayed at this hotel for a few days and really enjoyed the time I spent there. The location offers a glorious view over the little town of Sfakia, looking down to its picturesque harbour. It's worth pointing out however, that access to and from the town is via some perfectly good but quite steep stairs as the hotel must be around 100m above the town. It's no problem for anyone in reasonable health, but for anyone who struggles with mobility it might cause a problem. The comfortable appartment-style rooms all open out onto or are above a large sun terrace with a decent sized swimming pool in the middle of it. Ideal for a quick dip at any point during the day. The staff were all very cheery and helpful and along with the views and comfort, helped to make my stay a very enjoyable one. My only complaint is that the breakfast on offer every morning was a little basic compared to what I'm used to at hotels. There were more than enough options to please most tastes, but the lack of a (free) coffee machine serving fresh coffee and no fruit salad as an option (unlike other places I stayed in Crete) made me leave 4 stars rather than 5. But please don't let this put you off. This is certainly one of the nicest hotels to stay in if you plan a stay in Sfakia and I'd happily stay there again if and when I visit that town again in the future.

The hotel is situated above the pretty village of Sfakia the evacuation point of Allied soldiers following their defeat by a German airborne campaign in 1941. The hotel is of modern attractive construction and included individual rooms and apartments. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment (#18) which had a room with a queen bed and a hair dryer and TV and a sitting room/kitchen area with a comfortable sleeper couch and another TV. Wi-Fi was amongst the best we experienced on Crete. The apartment has a substantial balcony with a terrific view of the harbor as well as the hotel pool. The apartment had air conditioning but we did not need it. There were two issues in need for improvement -lighting is poor in both rooms and there are no reading lights. The bathroom was simple with a single sink, toilet and a shower curtained shower with a hand held shower head. Breakfast is included in the very reasonable room rate and includes fresh squeezed orange juice, Greek yoghurt and cereals, uncut fruit, simple cold cuts, boiled & scrambled eggs and bacon. Service was excellent and the room was cleaned on a daily basis. All in all the hotel is to be recommended for individuals and families

Horizons is a series of rooms and two roomed apartments at the very back of Chora Sfakion: excellent for view but a hard walk down to the main village. We had a two roomed apartment. Ghastly bathroom: small shower area - hand-held shower- stickty shower curtain. One doublebed bedroom with TV, very poor lighting but with access to private balcony: another room with a poorly fitted (cheap?) kitchen area, some ill-made upright chairs ( the backs were not fitted correctly), one day bed and a TV. Breakfast was a buffet with coffee /tera. orange juice (good), four sorts of bread (fresh) cereals, fresh melon, yoghurt, honey and orange jam, spanokopita or tiropita, cucumberm olives, tomato, little apple turnovers, rizogala, and hard boiled eggs, hot scrambled eggs and hot bacon. Well presented. We paid 90 euros cash per night for the two of us to use an apartment and have breakfast. not bad value for money. The snag for us was that to get to a room you needed to walk down stairs. These are Cretan stairs: no handrail and there was no overwhelming willingness to help with our bags. (I am elderly and find stairs very difficult). However while there was no offer to help us load our car when we left, no praise could be too hogh for the ladies who cleaned our apartment daily. Excellent service

Receptionist was very pleasant, lovely view , the pool was small but clean, breakfast and eating area were ok, Wi-Fi was good. Bathrooms were dark, showers not fit for purpose, wardrobes and cupboards smelt damp and musty, electricity fusebox had to be used, little or no signage to complex which is challenging when one is new to area. Cost charged is exorbitant for current amenities. Urgent updating is needed

Checking out the southern part of Crete more for business than pleasure we were surprised at how clean and welcoming the hotel was. The sea facing room had everything needed with staff who went out of their way to ensure your stay was pleasurable A spotlessly clean swimming pool was very welcome at the end of the day Snacks were available from the bar area around the pool which also doubled up as the breakfast area And talking about breakfast the choice was excellent with a buffet that will have you firing on all cylinders for the rest of the day My only advice would be to bring jellies when you go swimming off the beach if you have baby feet like me
