Sossus Dune Lodge

The tent was huge. The surrounding was beautiful. The room was a bit dusty though staff tried to keep it as clean as they can. One downside is the lack of AC with afternoon temp reached about 40C. The night was in 20's so it's more bearable. The location is just inside the national park. We took the morning excursion to Sossusvlei. We were first car there and the guide secured the best picnic spot for us. Highly recommended

There were more advantages than disadvantages of staying there but I did not give it excellent only for one reason and that is during a sand storm that happened all of the 2 days I was there, the gaps in the room walls and floors caused the whole room to be filled with sand, you had to sleep on a bed of sand, towels were sandy, I could not open my suitcase because I was afraid all my clothes would get sand in it. There was nothing anyone could do as the sand kept coming in every minute even if I dusted everything, there was no escape. The advantage was that being inside the park you could go see the dunes and Deadville even after the park gates closed, The storm lasted till afternoon and if I was outside the park I would not have been able to see the dunes as there would be very little time for the gates to close so staying here meant I could go back to the dunes anytime after the wind subsided a bit. I was told that Aug and Sept usually sees a lot of high winds so avoid those months. Food and service was excellent, The staff was great and the cookies they bake are heavenly. They pack a really good breakfast for you to take every morning and dinner was three course, the beet soup was excellent and the grilled fish was the best I had tasted in a long time. Lack of wifi was also a disadvantage as we could not check the weather forecast to see when the storm was going to end. We had to go all the way to the gate and buy wifi for 30$. If it was not for the sand storm situation this place would be the place to be in, I wish they do something to cover up the rooms so sand does not come in

Das Beste zuerst, es ist eine absolut fantastische Lage in der Wüste innerhalb des Parks. Das ermöglicht einen frühen Start zum Deadvlei oder zum Sonnenaufgang und Sonnenuntergang an der Düne 45. Auch der Sonnenuntergang auf der Terrasse war spektakulär. Das Hotel selber war zu unserem Aufenthalt nur schwach belegt. In den geräumigen Zimmern war es sehr staubig, auf den Betten lag eine dunkle Sandschicht. Mit einer Tagesdecke hätte man das verhindern können. Die Moskitonetze waren löchrig. Das Essen für Namibische Verhältnisse mäßig, Gemüse war Tiefkühlgemüse. Es gab reichlich Personal, die Servicekraft am Abend war sehr freundlich und bemüht, ansonsten eher wenig Interesse an den Gästen. Der Pool war sauber, die Liegen und deren Auflagen rott. Mitten in der Wüste muss man keine 5* erwarten, aber wer solche Preise aufruft, muss mehr bieten.
