Sunset Motel

We booked this motel the morning of our stay. Check-in at 2 pm, but when we got there at 4:30, the confirmation had not been received. We didn't wait long until the gentleman attending to us said that we had Room 8 (out of 10). He worked out a very small office in the center of the motel complex and told us of a snake that had gotten into a client's room and bite him, so he suggested that we keep out main entrance door shut as the screen door did not fit or shut properly. My wife is afraid of snakes, so his words were not comforting. He also mentioned that there was no hand soap as his order placed in early July, almost 4 weeks ago, had not been received. No problem, I said. As we approached our room, we noticed a young man playing with a rubber snake and to his left a real 18" garder snake between the sidewalk and door of Room 9. It was explained to us that there is a nest of these snakes next to the motel and that the client bitten had attempted to remove the snake from his room to the woods. We stayed but ensured that the door to #8 was closed tightly with a towel at the bottom and visually inspected when we left and re-entered the room. The room itself was small but clean, and the bed was comfortable. We also ensured that any drains in the sink and tub were plugged, and the toilet seat was down when not in use. I slept fine, the wife not so much. I could not make this up, and in hindsight, it is pretty fun. Oh, if you haven't guessed it, the room was really, really cheap!

Thank goodness I brought my sleeping bag. Found some hairs in the sheets so slept on top of the bed with my own bedding. Typical road side motel. Nothing special. Garbage used as a curtain for the door window.
