Santonero - the Philoxenia Project

What a wonderful experience! We went on our first proper holiday/honeymoon and wanted it to feel relaxing and luxurious. This place nailed it. The views are incredible, the room is spacious, comfortable and the air con is a good send. The private pool is slightly heated and lovely to lounge around in for hours admiring the view and relaxing. By the way, this place definitely has the best views and looks like the nicest place to stay, at least in this area. The staff were so friendly and nice helping us with advice, questions and even carried our luggage to and from the car without asking (which I was so so grateful for!). Each day we had a feast of a breakfast which was delicious. It filled us up enough that we didn't really need to eat again till dinner time. You select the day before what you want to have for breakfast with a good choice of 2 drinks each, core sharing selection and breakfast plate each. Most of the time we were left to ourselves with people coming in once a day for cleaning etc, which is how we like it. They have a handy WhatsApp service to request things or you can ask at the desk. Parking can be a bit difficult as you need to park at the top of the hill and it can get full sometimes but there are places to park down the street too. I'd highly recommend hiring a car just as the busses can be a long walk and taxis need to be booked in advance plus, you'll get to see more of the island that way. If you have mobility issues you might struggle here as it is on the hillside and the steps can be steepish but with no handrail etc. Took me a couple days to get used to it with my fear of heights but it was worth it! I imagine a lot of Santorini would be quite difficult with mobility issues though. If you contact them in advance they can book you experiences, taxis, airport transfers etc. THE BED!!! Oh the bed was so big and so comfy! Lots of things were within reach of the bed, including the air con, and there was a reasonably sized TV that we could connect our phones and accounts to watch stuff (just remember to log off!) WiFi was fine and didn't seem to have any issues with it. Basically, do it. It can seem a bit pricey at times but it's one of the best things we have ever done and well worth it. Hoping to return again in coming years!

Simply amazing experience. Views are to die for and staff cannot do enough for you. The whole hotel is spotless. If you need anything all you need to do is send a WhatsApp message or call them. Food and drinks are served at the table outside your room so you don’t even need to move far and of course still getting the amazing views. Highly recommended.

My stay was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the caldera. The room was elegant and impeccably clean, with that charming Cycladic architecture you dream of when you think of Santorini. Waking up each morning to the peaceful sight of the sea and the volcanic islands was surreal. Last but not least, great dinner options combined with signature cocktails. We will be back. The hotel is located outside the town of Akrotiri on the quiet side of the island, but this was absolutely no obstacle but rather the opposite for a private and peaceful holiday. The suites are incredibly spacious both inside and out, very modern and minimalistic, well insulated and well equipped. The outside is accommodated by a large private terrace with incredibly comfortable sunbeds and a sofa group with a dining area, as well as two pools, one larger and one smaller, which is nicely heated. But what made the outside really special was the incredible view of the caldera! The breakfast served in the suite is chosen the day before from a large selection of different options. It was incredibly good and a perfect way to start the day, and of course you also choose what time it should be served. Unfortunately, they do not offer lunch, and this is probably the only disadvantage of the hotel in our opinion. They do, however, offer room service for drinks, small snacks and fruit plates from morning to evening. They serve dinner and we can highly recommend it because it was the best food we ate on the whole trip and it is served in the room just like breakfast, perfect to be enjoyed until sunset. And the best part of the entire stay was definitely the incredible staff who made sure we had everything we needed and more! Wonderful treatment, caring and personally accommodating! The hotel was so special that only after four days we booked another stay at Santonero and went back for another week this September.

This hotel is simply amazing from start to finish. The staff were so helpful and katerina the manager was amazing and helped me decorate our room as a surprise for my new wife. The apartment is huge and is literally two hotel rooms rolled into one. The private pool and private jacuzzi is an amazing touch and it over looks the caldera and volcano. Literally on the edge of the cliff. Stunning views all the time. Would not change one thing about the hotel and I have high standards with hotels. Thank you for making our wedding trip amazing.
