This is a little gem of a hotel. It is absolutely spotless and a testament to the housekeeping staff who work incredibly hard. The reception staff were very accommodating, kind and friendly. The beds were without a doubt the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever experienced. This is important as I have sensory issues and being comfortable makes all the difference. Breakfast was a standard continental with a lot of different choices, and goes on until 10am so can be taken at leisure. The only niggle that I had was that one of our two rooms (13) looked out onto the swimming pool machinery and back gate and I was woken up at 5am everyday, which got a bit much after a while. But this may not be a problem for a heavy sleeper who doesn’t care about a nice view (and again I have sensory issues, so sleep very lightly) If I ever return I would just spend the extra and get a balcony room. There was also an issue with the toilet cisterns not filling in my room for two days so they would not flush. I did report it, but I think it got lost in translation as we had, had the same issue with our other room, which was fixed immediately. It wasn’t a big deal, I just had to fill the cistern manually with the shower to flush it. I have still given 5 stars as this was not a problem throughout the hotel. Finally, I wanted to show my appreciation for Tony the shuttle driver. I really felt he went out of his way to ensure my son and I were okay and got to and from the hotel. He also has great recommendations for restaurants, trips etc, It is often hard travelling as a single parent and knowing that people are looking out for you makes a big difference. All in all, everything was great. If I would make a suggestion for improvement it would be to add some usb sockets to the rooms for phone and laptop charging for convenience (we had only brought one adapter, so will always check in the future).

I want to start this review by saying I absolutely enjoyed my stay at Hotel La Pergola and recommend it as the ideal location to enjoy Sorrento and base to visit the rest of the Amalfi Coast. My stay got off to a bad start when there was confusion with my booking apparently caused by my travel agent but the reception staff thankfully were able to offer me another room upon payment of a small charge which I was very happy to pay. Note there is a huge difference between the sea side view and the carpark view! Be sure to get a sea side view, just pay the extra, it’s simply worth it. This hotel genuinely has great staff. The reception are very helpful, welcoming and pleasant. The breakfast is good with scrambled eggs on toast being my go too followed by very very good fresh fruit. There is cereal and far too many pastries to list. The Breakfast maître d for want of his official title is incredibly hard working. The pool is a good size, deeper than most at 2.2m and is just nice to cool off after a day exploring. It’s clean and the water quality excellent. I would prefer the pool to be available from 7am with Sunrise in August 6am but unfortunately the pool isn’t available until 9. This won’t affect your stay. I did have communication with the manager and was very pleased with the outcome. Finally I want to mention the Shuttle Driver, Tony, your driver. There can be no better advertisement for the hotel and he just makes every guest feel like a VIP. He also recommend a few restaurants and to get a boat not a bus tour and his advice was found to be spot on.

Hotel La Pergola was blocked for wedding guests and we were there 3 nights ($1200) the end of September. The good things...location was good, had parking (for a fee) and the breakfast was good. Communication was very good prior to our arrival however our stay was not the best. We were greeted outside by a friendly gentleman who helped us with our car. Reception was ok but not very welcoming. The rooms were quite small so very crowded for our 3 person set up. Linens were old and pilled. Most importantly, the air conditioner did not work. It made noise but nothing really came out of it, certainly nothing cold. I reported it and they was told a repairman would come out. The staff did not communicate it wouldn't be fixed that day so it was a very warm night. Repairman in the early afternoon and said it was working...it wasn't. Our friends rooms were very cold so I knew this was a lie. I went down and asked for a fan and reluctantly, she went to a closet and took out a rusted, dust filled fan. Fortunately, she cleaned it and brought it up to to us. It really helped so i was very happy about that. Charged one euro for an 8 oz cup of ice. Would never go back and I do not recommend. Way overpriced for the quality of the hotel.

First visit to Italy and hotel is in a superb location. Staff are all friendly, Tony the hotel taxi driver is especially so. In fact he made the holiday, his recommendations for restaurants are unbelievable. The hotel is clean, rooms spotless every day, bed is comfy and views are ok but please note you cannot see the sea from the hotel. Pool is clean and tidy but only about ten spaces so if hotel is busy then easily gets full. Now the bad, the breakfast is awful. Nothing warm was ever there and if you don't like cheese you really are done for. The bar in the reception is basically ran by the receptionist so if they are busy then you have to wait. There are no bar snacks or even coffee making facilities in the room. The roof top terrace has no lights so once it gets dark, you cant see where you are walking which is ridiculous. Shower in the bathroom is tiny and not very strong at all. I cant faulty the staff or the cleanliness of the hotel but you are paying for location only unfortunately.

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Hotel La Pergola. I booked this hotel for myself and my mum, and as another reviewer mentioned, was slightly hesitant after some of the reviews left at the end of August. We arrived at the hotel about 2 hours before we could 'officially' check in (due to an early flight time) but the two women working reception were kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. They took our passports and stored them safely away (I think each pigeon hole may even have been locked, but I could be mistaken). Luckily, our room was ready early, which was a lovely surprise. The AC worked perfectly and we had absolutely no trouble with the temperature, even my mum, who suffers from the odd hot flush, was very happy. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and are cleaned every day by a wonderful and friendly group of cleaners. Breakfast was fab, a classic continental but had things to suit everyone. After 7 days I think I had eaten enough ham and cheese, but that's purely personal. The hotel is a little walk into the centre of Sorrento, around 15 minutes, but honestly in the heat of the day it feels more like 30. The hotel have obviously tried to combat this by putting on the shuttle bus, run by Tony who was lovely, but there is a large portion in the middle of the day where it doesn't run (from 12:30ish to 6pm), meaning there were a couple of long walks back to the hotel - however we made it work and it wasn't a problem. Gorgeous sun trap roof terrace with a covered area that was literally empty apart from me and mum, which was a real treat. The gentleman who worked the reception at night and tended to the breakfast was really friendly and personable, and made our stay really enjoyable. Overall, really good stay, location slightly further out than I would stay again, but that's personal preference, and forgot to mention the Hotel's Restaurant, Cafe Latino - set back from the Corso Italia under a blanket of trees, it was wonderful. Staff were kind and food was amazing!

The first thing to say is that we really liked this hotel. I'll admit that I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the recent reviews, most of which I feel are unfair based on our recent experience. We made very welcome from the time we set foot in the hotel and everything was explained clearly. Yes, the passports were taken from us, as mentioned before but I personally can't see the problem with this. Our room was set up as triple and was located at the from of the hotel, looking out towards he sea and hills. It was quiet and the room was very clean and the beds super comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. There was plenty of choice and everything was well presented. Although I don't know his name, the gentleman who worked the reception at night and then did set up the breakfast in the morning could not have been more friendly and welcome and deserves a special mention. There is a free shuttle service into Sorrernto which is run by the delightful "Tony", a nicer, kinder person you could not wish to meet. Thankyou Tony. All in all I we could not have had a better 4 night stay at Hotel La Pergola and would not hesitate to return. Thankyou to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

It’s absolutely beautiful place, the staff is polite and helpful! And the owner is one of the kindest people in Italy! If you want to have the best dinner of your life - go to the restaurant Cafe Latina (Corso Italia, 24, Sorrento). I’ll be back for sure!

If you are looking to stay in Sorrento, please do not book this hotel. Save yourself the disappointment, pay a little extra and get somewhere nearer to the centre. We arrived at reception for check-in on the afternoon of 20th August. The woman behind the desk didn’t even acknowledge our presence initially and was in no rush. She took our passports which she stored at the front desk, within easy reach of anyone. When we asked her about this, she laughed and said ‘Don’t worry about that’. Very odd that she would even need to take these- other hotels will take passport details at check-in and then return these immediately. I would advise her also to take some training in customer service, as her manner was quite rude. Our room was located just beside the check-in desk. My heart sank when I saw it. Two dusty beds pushed together, and a worn and sad looking wardrobe. Outdated, and certainly nothing like the images we saw when we booked this hotel online. Our room was one with ‘a pool view’. Well, we could certainly see the ‘pool’ from the toilet as it looked onto what seemed like a paddling pool area, with bathers backed up against our toilet window. Not quite what we had in mind. The air conditioning was awful. The woman at reception informed us that it had to be at a certain temperature to work. When she ‘fixed’ it, the air stream was akin to someone faintly blowing with minimum effort. Again, not quite what we had in mind. We booked another hotel closer to the centre and checked out less than 45 minutes after checking in. There is no way we could have stayed there. At receptionist, she said we’d gotten the room we asked for- ‘a room with a pool view’. This is most definitely not a four-star hotel. Avoid.

We booked our romantic holiday for the first time in Sorrento. We got a deal on Last Minute for this supposed four star hotel. When we arrived, you enter a very functional lobby that looked more like something you would see in a bargain hotel. The unfriendly woman working at reception the early afternoon of 20 August took her time giving us any attention as if we were not even standing there. She took our passports and kept them in a pigeon hole behind reception. I queried why she was keeping them and my concerns about the lack of security as anyone could reach behind the desk and take them. She said she would process them and give them back to us later. We got checked in and were shocked by the standard of the room. It was two twin beds instead of a double bed. The air conditioning worked very poorly. The bathroom was extremely basic. We asked for more hangars and were given a miscellaneous assortment that looked like they came out of a charity shop. I asked the woman at reception to help us with the air conditioning as it wasn’t working properly. She came to the room and evidently we should have been psychic to know that it should be set on 20C to work at its optimum. That seems a high temperature to me for air conditioning. But even then it worked very poorly. I looked out our windows and saw that the tiny basic pool was just a few feet from our window. In the bathroom you had to pull up some form of ancient pulley to bring up a shutter. And then you were met with sunbathers almost immediately in your face they were so close. After all this we decided there was no way we could stay in this awful hotel as it would ruin our holiday. We booked in another hotel and booked a taxi immediately to leave. The receptionist seemed shocked that we didn’t find their atrocious accommodation acceptable. She said “But it has a pool view!” How this hotel has four stars is beyond me. Did Helen Keller award these stars?? You will find many wonderful hotels with exceptional standards, views, service and much closer to the city centre. I would warn every holiday traveller to avoid this hotel. And its award of four stars should most definitely be reviewed by its awarding body. Any website can make photos to look attractive. The photos I saw of this hotel were not the reality with which I was met. Thankfully our holiday was saved by staying at the most beautiful city centre hotel with a waterfront view.
