Hotel Kilbourne

Very small quaint hotel. Just 9 rooms but very clean and comfortable with beautiful views of Sandusky Bay! O tacos restaurant just inside and rooftop bar facing the bay. Very close to ferry for put in bay and Kelly’s island. There was actually a band playing on the marina the day we were here.

So, to begin, let me say that a plus side, the room does look nice. You would think you will have a great stay. HOWEVER…. First off, parking is trash. They have very little parking in the front, side parking and back parking is always full because of the bar. Speaking of the bar, it’s literally right below the bedrooms. Music is playing till 2am, and I mean playing loud. They do however provide ear plugs so that’s sweet of the (Sarcastic Voice) The pictures that you see, some are accurate and some are not. I approached the front desk and he (Some dude with a goatee) confirmed the pictures haven’t been updated. Oh and wait till you look at the cart they have to load your bags…I’m surprised I didn’t get tetanus.😂 Here’s the kicker! I paid full price over $800 for three days through *******. I knew what I was paying so that didn’t shock me. What did shock me was that Hotel Kilbourne literally tried to charge me another $800 after I was back home. Then they tried to blame it on ******* but it shows through Capital One that it definitely was the hotel. Luckily Capital One has my back and is disputing the charges. Moral of this story, pay attention to the 1 stars on these reviews. This place may look nice and even somewhat feel nice when you walk in but I assure you, you’re going to have a very bad experience with this place. Just find a cheap hotel somewhere cause you will more than likely enjoy that than Hotel Kilbourne.

Really impressed with this lovely boutique hotel. Very warmly welcomed by Meghan. Loved the decorating throughout. We had a riverfront room with fireplace. Restaurant onsite and rooftop bar which I’m sure during summer would be hopping. Would highly recommend if travelling through Sandusky.

Boutique Hotel in downtown Sandusky adjacent to the Jackson Street Pier (great views of Sandusky Bay). The hotel is extremely clean with modern decor. Rooms has mounted 50 inch TV with a faux fireplace. The washroom was huge with a large floor to ceiling shower. The beds were extremely comfortable. We had two large king beds, very spacious. The building is a remodeled one from the early 1900's. Because of that, you can hear everything happening in the building.... So much so, they have ear plugs in the rooms!? Besides the abnormally loud noises, it was a really nice place. The bar is strategically located at the rear of the hotel facing the Jackson Street Pier overlooking water.... It's gotta be really nice in the summer.

Booked through ********** got to the hotel with my family and they said I didn't have a reservation. They overbooked and gave my prepaid room away before we arrived. Very unreliable! Of course front desk didn't care much and could not do anything.

Nice location and friendly staff. It is noisy but the hotel description indicates this. We stayed for a weekend to meet up with my husband’s brother and wife for a Saturday at Put In Bay. Our room was second floor lake view king micro suite above the bar. Rooms are boutique small and we liked the Nespresso machine, rooftop bar and location. Rooms do not get service and we had to go ask for clean towels. For $380/night this is an expectation. Temperature control in the room was poor. Probably will stay at Put In Bay next time we visit.

The food is horrible and establishment is dirty. I will never visit again. I got sick immediately after my meal. The bathrooms were also absolutely disgusting. You are better off staying at a local Airbnb or other hotel. Not worth the money. Owner and staff are very rude.

I don’t normally write reviews but this hotel really did it. Sad to say that I will NOT recommend this hotel. The hotel is not a luxury hotel as it claimed to be (not even close). Upon arrival in our room, an AC remote control was on the floor, which seemed to have fallen off the wall (mounted on the wall with 4 small screws). We simply picked it up and put it on the table. A day after we checked out, the hotel had charged my credit card $250 for damages. Damage that we did not do in the first place. I have called the hotel several times, but front desk staff has given me the same answer over and over again that the hotel manager is not available. I have sent emails to get someone’s attention and still have not received any response. In regards to my comment about this hotel not being close to being luxury. (Besides the fact that rooms are not well maintained and blaming/charging the guests for broken items in the room without any explanation) Upon checking in, since I have my small child with me, I had asked if anyone could help me with my luggage. The front desk, of course said yes, i went to my car parked in front of the hotel thinking she would come with me, but she ignored me while me and my son Hauled our 2 big suitcases. Thankfully, another staff had offered a cart so that I can load my stuff and push it myself. Very disappointing.

This is a small boutique hotel in downtown Sandusky. It is very cute and modern-feeling. The room was very nice - soft, comfortable beds, extremely soft towels, HUGE bathroom with rain showerhead and excellent toiletries (shampoo, etc.) The only bad thing I have to say is that there is no soundproofing between rooms/floors whatsoever. You can hear EVERYTHING, including the mere sound of someone walking on the floor above you. I expected this going into the stay (having read previous reviews) and so I brought a white noise machine. This, plus the provided ear plugs, made this a non-issue. My advice is to know what you are getting into -- if you are sensitive to noise, you may want to reconsider. There is free parking right across the street from the hotel, and many other free lots nearby if that one happens to be full. The on-site restaurant/bar on the ground floor was cute - we had drinks one night and it was a nice atmosphere. The rooftop bar was not open for the season (we were there in late April). I would stay here again if I was in the area. Just remember to pack that white noise machine!
