I only stayed here for 1 night and all was good. However, I want to alert travellers who are thinking of visiting Sotogrande and anyone who is thinking of moving here. My father is a golfer as am I: the golf courses are all wonderful, especially Valderama and Real Club Sotogrande. However, that is IT! Sotogrande is nothing at all how you might expect if you believed all the reports by the realtors and publications that go on and on about how elite and special the place is. They continuously refer to both Sotogrande in the hills and at the port as being tranquil - it is anything BUT tranquil! I have stayed here 5 times, more recently in August and then again in October when my father was competing in a golf tournament. If I could have found a way to review the entire area of Sotogrande, I would have so this is not a direct reflection of MIM hotel. The place just gets worse and worse. Sotogrande is loud, very loud. Children everywhere shouting and behaving badly, everyone seems to own at least 3 dogs - many of them dangerous dogs and off leashes. They roam the beaches were they are supposed to be illegal but no one ever does anything about it. The place seems to have a law of its own. It is supposed to have 24 hour security which really means 1 car drives around every now and then. I have never seen a security officer on foot. All the privately owned swimming pools are full of noisy, screaming children with inflatables. When I stayed here once with my friends in their house, I had to move out due to no sleep. In the summer there are many live concerts and live music shows that start at midnight and go on until 6 in the morning. The worst noise of all is the constant very loud roar of machinery that is generated by the Sotogrande gardeners that use heavy machinery and this is actually constant all day, every day, it never lets up. There is nothing to do in Sotogrande but eat and drink. Don't believe the publications and realtors who rave about all the leisure pursuits - it's not at all true! There's virtually no shops, nothing to do at all. I feel very sorry for my friends who own two properties there and cannot sell them. The noise is making their life unbearable and they say living here is hell as they cannot escape, there is no where to go and nothing to do. They can't even take their children on a walk, there's no sidewalks, just gutters or the road to walk in. The place has been built only for cars! It's fine if you like a noisy place for a few days but otherwise choose anywhere else.
