PLANETA ATACAMA LODGE

Beautiful small Lodge outside San Pedro de Atacama. Lovely view from the Lodge on to the volcano’s. The host family was very welcoming and gave a lot of travel tips for the region. Without a car the Lodge might be a little too far off from the city.

This is a beautiful place to stay. The location is quiet, it is dark enough for great stargazing and the view across to the volcanoes is wonderful. The walk from town is about 15 minutes and a torch is needed for the last section at night. However many tours pick up and drop off from the lodge, and taxis are available. Breakfast is good especially the fantastic homemade juice. What makes this place really special is the helpfulness, friendliness and warmth of the host, Franklin. He greeted us like old friends and made sure we had everything we needed. I also messaged him some questions prior to our trip and he answered promptly. His English is great and he's not a bad Spanish coach! The rooms are basic but comfortable and the huge bed was great. We loved the shared breakfast and lounge area with its rustic tables, honesty beer and water fridge and the great view.

We chose this lodge for its position outside the town to make the most of the views and peaceful location. It was wonderful very relaxing and a good location to explore the area. We had hired a SUV at Calama airport. The views of the mountains range, the volcano Lincacabur and the Milky Way were stunning. Every room faces Lincacabur - and what a view to wake up to. The service levels are exceptional. Before arrival we had a WhatsApp from Franklin sending us a link to maps for directions, a list of restaurant recommendations and even the Wifi password. At the lodge Franklin was most helpful in helping us plan an itinerary to suit our photographic needs and was genuinely interested to hear how our days had gone.. He certainly elevated our stay to exceptional. In fact we spent a further two days the other side of town at a more luxurious lodge with a swimming pool but after 10 mins arrival wished we were back at Planeta. Highly recommend. A must visit is La Franchuteria in town. The best croissants and pain au chelate I have tasted outside France. Wonderful bakery.

Oh my gosh what a wonderful place to stay in San Pedro. There is a FANTASTIC view of the Andes mountains from every room, and there are only 5, so it’s a very intimate place. It’s great spot to relax and decompress and take in the scenery. Romantic for couples. Carla & Franklin were so wonderful at helping us with check in, breakfast, taxis, and anything else. I loved meeting them & hearing their story. The other reviews are correct that it is a bit outside of the main town streets. That said, all of the tours still picked us up from the hotel and we thought it was worth it. It was peaceful and a bit of a respite from town, if you needed one. I also appreciated that it didn’t have a pool.. seems nonsensical or a bit indulgent to have one for tourists in the desert. Graffiti about conservation and water sacredness was all over town. The temperature in the rooms was fine for us, maybe a bit warm at times, but could see how others might be sensitive to it. I liked the efficiency of the clay design. Breakfast was included and decent. Overall beautiful place.

Beautiful eco friendly lodge on the outskirts of town with amazing views from every room of the desert and volcanoes. Franklyn and his wife were incredibly helpful in providing information about the area, tours, restaurants etc and we especially appreciated him looking after our suitcases for 3 days while we did the uyuni tour. Nothing was too much trouble and would highly recommend staying here.
