Hotel La Collegiata

A very unique hotel that was converted from an old monastery. Everything about our stay was just beyond our expectations. The warm and friendly staff starting with the manager and going all the way to everyone on the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful to our needs for the 10 days we stayed there. Breakfast was included and was freshly made ever day and excellent. The front desk was as hospitable, knowledgeable, and curtious as you could ever wish for. The rooms we had were large and comfortable with a great patio space to sit and enjoy in your down time. Since it was very hot on our trip it was great to have a beautiful pool that was well maintained. Lunch was just about anything you could request it was not part of your base expense but well worth it. Pre pandemic they also had a dinner menu but that has not yet been restored

Our stay at La Collegiata was wonderful! It’s a lovely boutique hotel reminiscent of a bygone era. It's a tranquil and peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle but very close to the center of San Gimignano. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast, which had so many choices, was delicious (as was lunch). The pool area was delightful, never crowded, and very peaceful. And..The staff was excellent! Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and at our disposal for whatever we needed, and the two managers, Stefano and Maria Rosa, were always on hand. They are the best staff we have ever had. We spent nine glorious days here, and I can honestly say we became friends. I was sorry to say good-bye!

Scratch below the surface and this hotel is very tired and needs investment. Felt like staff were going through the motions rather than trying to give the customer a good experience. The only place we have ever been in Italy where they don’t give you nibbles with drinks but still charge top prices. Since returning I have found the hotel for sale on Rightmove which explains quite a lot about the feel you get from the staff and the general lack of enthusiasm they have towards guests. The hotel is not really walkable to the town and taxis aren’t cheap. We paid 40 Euros for a round trip. To finish this review the gym is a joke ! It’s in a cellar next to the pool and isn’t inviting. We found it by chance as there are no signs and none of the staff had pointed it out. Finally no option for a late check out even though the hotel was nowhere near full and nowhere was offered for us to shower and change. I would not recommend this hotel and have stayed in better 2 star accommodation.

The location, exterior of the property and views are all outstanding. The interior of the hotel is tired and old with dust covered silk magnolia floral arrangements straight out of the 1980s. The room was dark with only a tiny window in the corner of the room. Once in your room, a set of 5 concrete steps must be traversed to use the restroom or exit. Very odd that there are no tissues in the bathrooms. The breakfast starts at 8:00am and was good. There is no way to get coffee before 8:00am. This makes things difficult if you have an 8:30 tour or early departure. The pool and hot tub hours are 9:00am-7:00pm. We arrived back to the hotel at 6:40 and were told "no, you can't use the hot tub now but you can tomorrow morning after 9:00am." Seems odd to deny adult guests hot tub usage, especially since the hotel was empty, maybe 3 other guest groups on site. When my husband did use the hot tub the next day it was dirty with a floating band aid and debris. The dining room is closed (seasonal) so eating on the coffee table in the "bar" area was rather odd. We appreciated the care and assistance of Stefano who did his best to make us comfortable under the circumstances. There is an echo throughout the building which magnifies any and all noises along with paper thin walls which allow conversations (and everything else!) to be heard. The gym is in a creepy basement (maybe an old fruit cellar?) with old broken equipment. Housekeeping entered our room with us inside and a "Do not disturb" sign on the door. WiFi does not work, tv buffers. Staff was not friendly, with the exception of Stefano who seems to do everything. The overall mood of the property and staff is dim and gloomy. Had us thinking of a book about a dark hotel......

Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, great pool, nice staff. The view from rooms, pool and the restaurant for breakfast and afternoon drinks is stunning. Especially the view back to San gimignano. The taxi the hotel booked for us completely ripped us off, costing 30 euro for a 5 min ride in to the city and 40 euro back to the hotel after dinner. That was the only let down. I would suggest the hotel find a new taxi driving service to call for their guests.

This hotel is one of the worst experience we ever had. Supposedly a 4 star, felt more like a 1 star hotel. The manager is extremely rude and unhelpful, the staff except the lady who serves breakfast, doesn’t really want to serve and seem unhappy with their jobs. The pool is dirty, no room service nor any kind of service at all. Shlep your own bags up, the elevator only allows two people to use it at a time, hair and snot in the pool and don’t expect any service after 11 00 ( more like an elderly home approach then a 4 star hotel! I overheard a staff member telling a guest that this hotel is privately owned by two Milanese families. It seems like these families run it on minimal cost and don’t really care what the hotel offers the guests, it must be just an asset that needs to be cost covering … A shame!
