The Jay is a newer Marriott Autograph Collection, full service hotel located on the edge of the Financial District in downtown San Francisco. My wife and I stayed for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend. We loved it. - very friendly staff - decor is a cool mix of California modern and Japanese aesthetic - gym is large with 3 new Peloton bikes in working condition - Bay view room gave us a super view of Telegraph Hill down to the Ferry Building - if you have the city view rooms instead you will see downtown and the Salesforce Tower - slept with the window open and enjoyed fog horn sounds and cool air - had cocktails at the outdoor portion of the Third Floor restaurant but did not dine in, very relaxing outdoor space - 5-10 minute walk to the Ferry Building or to the California cable car line terminus 10-15 minute walk to Chinatown or City Lights bookstore - short walk to the F Trolley line if you want to take that to Fisherman's Wharf or in the other direction to Union Square, many city busses stop nearby as well - felt totally safe at night - a few homeless people in this area but nothing you would not see in any city, most of the homeless are in the Tenderloin/Union Square area - a mix of business people in after the weekend and quite a few Millenial couples with young children during the weekend, costs go up M-F as usual with any city center hotel, valet is pricey but we did not have a car and it is SFran - they do have event rooms on the 2nd floor and these seemed busy with young/hip DJ parties Overall, would recommend if you like to splurge on a cool vibe, lovely decor hotel, and even if you don't want to spend time in the Financial District, you can easily walk from here or use transit to get around the entire city.
