TownePlace Suites San Diego Airport/Liberty Station

Excellent experience

We stayed at this hotel for two night. It is conveniently located to the airport, even if you don’t have a car (about 10 minutes to walk). The hotel itself was pleasant to stay but nothing special. The only truly disappointing thing was the breakfast. We went towards the end of breakfast time and there was pretty much nothing left. They ran out of most stuff so they also couldn’t refill it.

I stay at this location from time to time when flying in or out of San Diego. The hotel provides an airport shuttle. I usually check in to the hotel, drop off my bags in the room and then return my rental car the night before my flight. It saves the parking fee and makes it easy in the morning to be dropped off at the terminal. The room and entire hotel were very clean. The studio had a kitchen and sitting area plus the bed. Bathroom was clean and well stocked with towels and supplies. Thermostat was easy to understand and fully operational. Marilan H was a true brand ambassador...I appreciated visiting with her about the property. Breakfast in the morning was fresh. Hot and cold foods plentiful. Juices and coffees also available. Shuttle back to the airport in the morning for a stress free morning. I can recommend this property for stays in San Diego...whether near Point Loma or the Airport the TPS Liberty Station provides a quality stay.

We have stayed at the TPS Liberty Station a few times now. It is a consistent property with a friendly staff. This trip our room was upgraded to the two-bedroom suite with my Bonvoy NUA. These seem tougher and tougher to use these days...I never thought I use one at a TPS but better here and than have them expire after multiple attempts at other properties. The two bedroom was handy with the extra room. Breakfast was standard TPS and tasty. The breakfast area was clean and well managed by the staff. The hotel is very close to the airport terminals...the current construction might make it quicker to get to the hotel. A short wait after calling for the shuttle made it easy to get to and from the airport. Plenty of restaurants in the area...nothing really walkable. One of our favorites in San Diego is Point Loma Seafood just a couple minutes away. A good stay...we'll always consider this hotel. Prices and redemption rates vary so much in San Diego I have a short list of properties that I check...this one is always a consideration.

I made a prepaid booking through Marriott for a king bed room with a pull out couch. When we arrived I was told they only had one room left and it had two queens and an ottoman which was basically a chair that nobody could sleep on. I told them I had already prepaid for the king room so they had no right to give it away, but I was assured there was only one room left in the entire hotel and we were forced to take that. When I asked why they did not hold the room I had already paid for, I was told they overbook that hotel all the time. We arrived at night and wondered if we'd arrived any later if they would have given up the last room in the hotel and left us with no place to stay. They also added on more taxes at checkout for the prepaid room. I tried to explain to them they can't add on money after a guest has prepaid for a reservation, but they didn't care and didn't seem to understand. In all my years of traveling this has never happened to me before. When I responded to the satisfaction email the hotel sent out, I explained what happened. The manager sent me an email saying the two queen room was larger than the king and cost more. Her response made me mad because she acted like she was doing us a favor instead of giving us a room type we didn't want. We were uncomfortable in the two queen room, it did not work for us, and we didn't care that it might be larger or cheaper, we wanted what we reserved and PREPAID for. After having to send her another email because she didn't respond to me, the manager offered me 2000 marriott points for our trouble which is nothing. The hotel room we prepaid for was expensive and we didn't sleep well. The manager still has not responded to my last email and I had to escalate this to Marriott corporate office. I want them to know how this hotel is operating. I'm sure we are not the first people this has happened to and we will never stay there again. I don't know how they can get away with this type of behavior.
