Altfraenkische Weinstube

Classic small inn the rooms are nicely decorated and kept. One side of our room was low headroom because of the slanted roof, but was fine. Bath was nicely done. Convenient to walking every where. We only stayed one night and had just breakfast there but the breakfast offerings were good and varied. I would stay here again.

We highly recommend Altfranenkische Weinstube! First is the location - Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a trip into the Middle Ages (do yourself and the town a favor - stay overnight, don't be a day tripper!). And this hotel is even more of the same - it is located in a building that is at least 650 years old. Our room was large, quiet and attractive (exposed beams and antiques) and the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant / breakfast room is dark with simple, dark furniture and exposed beams (as another has written, it is the sort of place that you might expect to find Dwarves or Elves or Hobbits). The breakfast spread (not a buffet; at your table) was amazing. And the most remarkable thing of all was the kindness / generosity. At breakfast the first morning, we mentioned that we would be leaving before breakfast the next day (simply hoping to avoid wasted food); at checkout, we found that staff had packed essentially the same feast we had had the previous morning, to go; it was enough food not only for breakfast but for the whole day. Give yourself a treat and stay at Altfranenkische Weinstube!

Decided to spend Christmas in Germany again this year and chose Rothenburg as the place. After careful review, we chose the Altfrankische Weinstube because of it's great reviews and it's medieval vibe. We were not disappointed. We decided to hike in from the train station and it took us about 20 minutes but also gave us a good feel for the town. The hotel was everything I expected. The room was a good size with comfortable beds, good blankets, good heating, a bathtub and a bathroom heater - were on the second floor. Breakfast was fabulous. Eggs, yogurt, fresh pastries, muesli, good coffee, meat and cheese plate and wonderful kitchen staff. Our rooms were cleaned everyday while we ate breakfast. The hotel staff were very knowledgeable about the town and things to do. The hotel is conveniently located to the Christmas Markets, the protection walls and the vistas surrounding the town. The Rothenburg Museum is out the front door and to the right - about 20 meters. If you want the medieval feel in a medieval town, this is the place. Some folks might prefer modern, but I wanted authentic for Rothenburg. The restaurant was packed all of the nights we stayed there, indicating the dinner food is excellent however our practice is to sample other local cuisine when in any new town. I hope I have hit most of the highlights. Great hotel, great breakfast, great room and great service. Who could ask for more?

If you go to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, you need to stay here! All the “Old World Charm” you’d expect from Rothenburg… plus a great breakfast, easy location to find, and cleanliness that would even impress my mother! We had two rooms- one for us, one for our children. They loved having their own room! The staff is friendly, very accommodating, and if you don’t know German, you can get by well enough with English. When our boys overslept and we couldn’t get them up, the staff even helped us with a spare key to get into their room and get them up.
