Argileto Terra

Residenze Argileto is situated just a couple of hundred yards from Forum Romanum and Colosseum. A perfect spot. And it's got a fine breakfast area on top of the building (the roof terrace). You're eating right next to jacuzzi. And the view is not bad at all. Freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly made espresso, lots of fruit and cheese, yoghurt and much more. Really nice. The room however was/is a different story... You don't have to bring your own band aid... it's right there on the floor (see picture). Dust balls under the bed. The room has a nice scent of sewer, and the hotels garbage bins seem to be right under our window. The bed is almost about to crack. And then there is the bathroom... You will have a marvelous view watching your partner do his/her toilet business. Yes, you can pull out a small curtain, but the whole idea is somewhat silly (see pictures). And if you have to pee in the middle of the night, you'll definitely run a risk of waking your partner up, since the bathroom light will light up the whole room. Great! You pay for the location (and it's not cheap), the hotel is very average. We spent two nights at floor one. We will try another hotel next time.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. The bed was comfortable and the facilities provided were of a great standard.

We were thrilled with our little boutique hotel, really central. Booked for 4 nights. Our room was lovely and quirky with a beamed wooden ceiling, shuttered windows and marble floors. I could do with a step into shower as I am short, but managed! Nestled as I do then we both showered and changed. Decided to try out the pretty little hotel restaurant. Good decision. Pietro, the head waiter served us and was charming. We ordered shellfish risotto for me and pasta amatriciana for John. Pietro brought some delicious little hors d’oeuvres and some lovely home-made breads. Good local wine. Then the delicious main courses. We decided we were too full for puddings but he brought us some delicious tiny ones. We booked in again for our last night. We decided to go up to the hotel terrace for after dinner drinks and were greeted with splendid views and complimentary prosecco. Had a glass of red wine each then retired to bed. The next morning we decided to try breakfast on the hotel rooftop terrace. We enjoyed an excellent continental buffet breakfast. Lots of choice. Decided to eat there each morning as will set us up for day. 15 euros each less our 10% discount. As well as enjoying the breakfast, we enjoyed the splendid views and watching swifts fly overhead. Because of the last but one nights’ disappointing meal at a Rome restaurant, I had said that morning, to hotel reception, that it was our Ruby Wedding Anniversary week, and would like our evening meal at the restaurant that night to be a celebration. When we arrived back in our room we were thrilled to find a bottle of sparkling wine in an ice bucket, 2 flutes and a lovely congratulatory message from the hotel and staff. We showered and changed and enjoyed the wine before going down for a meal at 7.30pm. Once more we were surprised to be the only guests eating, as the food is so good, though another couple did come in about an hour later. I ordered sea bass on a dashi broth with mushrooms. John ordered lamb and we had sides of mash and roast artichokes. We had the chefs’ home made delicious bread selection and some tiny hors d’oevres of mozzarella on tomato with crispy pork. A glass of house wine each. I have discovered I like Italian chardonnay. Pietro arrived and congratulated us on our anniversary. After our delicious main courses with superb vegetable accompaniments, he brought us tiramasu to share. Again, gorgeous. Then he brought a glass of liqueur each, which was a bit like a madeira wine. So good we retired with another glass each! What a superb day! Our last morning and another glorious sunny morning , and our last at our lovely hotel. We went for breakfast on the rooftop terrace at 9am. Back in the room I packed the cases, had a cup of tea and went down to reception for 11.30am to check out. Felt like royalty, got an upgraded room, they called up and offered boxed breakfast no charge, because we had a very early flight, and they gave us complimentary Champaign. Staff was friendly, and gave recommendations. And the Colosseum is a 5 minute walk

On the plus side, the staff are very friendly and the breakfast was good. However the staff have an ever uphill task, trying to firefight problems as the hotel is over hyped on its website, and overpriced. I had booked one of the best rooms, to celebrate my partner's birthday. But the hotel was disappointing and not as described. The finish is generally not up to standard. The roof terrace is now only open for breakfast (this was not the case when we booked and there was no warning it was to change.) leaving nowhere else in the hotel to sit and relax. Made much worse by the fact that our room only had one easy chair and the bed squeaked incessantly and very loudly every time we touched it. To the extent it even woke us up in the night. This did eventually get fixed, but as it was something they clearly knew about and the guy on the desk was embarrassed about, I'm not sure what took them so long, and why it hadn't been done ages ago. We could still hear the bed in the room next door squeaking until we left. When we arrived it said the last booking for the roof top jacuzzi was 9,00pm but when we tried to book this was changed to 8.00pm, again ruining our plans to enjoy this at night. For the money, there are definitely better hotels in the same area and we would not recommend this one.

It was my husband and I’s 1st day of our vacation when we checked into the hotel. We freshened ourselves up before heading out to explore Rome. However, before we left, we noticed the room safe didn’t not work (That should’ve been our red flag). So, because of this I decided to hide our important valuables somewhere in the room. Thank God I did this because upon returning to our room at the end of the night, we noticed that my backpack was missing. My backpack was stolen from inside our room! We addressed this with the front desk and were told that no one had entered our room after we had left to explore earlier that day. My backpack contained, medicines, a jacket, our universal adapters, multiple chargers, a battery pack, a travel pillow, my ray bans case, and thankfully I removed and hid my wallet, jewelry, and both our passports before we left the room. I also had video proof that the backpack was inside the room before we left. The man at the front desk was as helpful as he could be considering it was late and all the staff had gone home for the night. He claimed he had looked for my backpack in various places in the hotel (although we cannot confirm this), wrote down my medications that needed replacing, he assured us and showed us on the computer that no one had entered our room (although after my husband asked if things could be deleted on their system, he did say that it is possible to delete anything), and he even called the hotel manager who promptly arrived. After the hotel manager arrived, we explained the issue, told her the contents of my backpack, and was quickly told that she would replace my medications that were stolen. The manager drove me to a 24-hour pharmacy and I was thankfully able to get my medications. Upon returning to the hotel, they claimed they were reviewing security footage. However, we cannot confirm for sure that this was actually being done. We were also told that we were not going to be compensated for what was stolen as they could not confirm the contents of my backpack, which we understood. At this point they told us that the we could stay at the hotel completely free of charge, which we appreciated. However, we did not feel safe to stay in the hotel or leave our property in the room again while we were away, so we decided to look for another hotel that could accommodate us. After 12 attempts to find a last minute hotel, we fortunately found 47 Boutique Hotel, not too far from this one, which we found to be extremely comfortable, safe, and an overall phenomenal stay. Of course the price was more expensive, but the peace of mind was worth every penny! Looking back, we regret nothing! After much respectful back and fourth with the front desk and the hotel manager late into the night, we packed up our things, headed down to the front desk and told them that we would not be staying at the hotel even with a completely free stay.
