My wife and I just returned from this fabulous place in Rodney Bay. First- I'll do a quick overview of the place in general so you know what to expect: Location: Rodney Bay is the tourist area located in the NW of the island. The large international airport is located in the south. There is essentially one 'highway' that will take over an hour to get to the area. It travels up the SE coast to the eastern coastal town of Dennery before crossing the country through the rainforest. This road is beautiful, but can be a bit daunting for those prone to motion sickness (due to the numerous switchbacks and local driving styles). The road goes through Castries (capital city) on the west and then up the coast to Rodney Bay. The trip time can be extended when there is rush-hour traffic, accidents, slower moving trucks etc. The driver will expect a tip (and will tell you he is not getting paid by his boss- happened both there and back). The resort is located a very short walk to Reduit Beach. There isn't a 'beach bar' but the resort will pack a small cooler with beer, water and/or soda with ice for you. Once you arrive on the beach, there are some designated chairs for the Soco House. There will be someone to show you the chairs with umbrellas. they will expect a tip (and will tell you they aren't paid by the hotel). There aren't any 'private beaches' in St. Lucia so expect to be asked relatively frequently if you would like a jet ski ride, drink, smoke/drugs, tours etc. The people are friendly and are not aggressive or pushy- just businessmen doing business. Hotel: The grounds are immaculate with pristine marble/alabaster decor. The lobby has an information/assistance desk, a small bar, a piano and restrooms. The dining area is located off the lobby down a small corridor. Outside, there are a few banks of long 3 story buildings that surround the main area with a small pool, cabanas, loungers, seating area and bar. All of the ground floor rooms have a walkout to the pool area. all of the 3rd floor rooms (which is where we were) have a balcony overlooking the pool. All of the second floor seemed to have an enclosed balcony but could open the windows to overlook the pool. (There are no elevators so if you have mobility issues, request a ground floor room). Dining: The resort is all inclusive, but there are no buffets here. All meals are served A la carte (seated, and ordered off menu in the dining room). The food is fantastic! The Breakfast menu is the same each day (see picture posted). We had coffee/tea and pineapple/orange juice choices as well. The lunch menu changes every 2 days, as does the dinner menu (different menus for lunch and dinner). Each meal was delicious and my wife and I tried to order different things just to try them all over the 2 days. We usually had wine or beer with lunch/dinner. There is also a tea time in the late afternoon. Accommodation: The room was nicely appointed with a comfortable bed.

This is a small and friendly hotel just 5 minutes walk from the beach where you can access free sun beds there. The staff here are so friendly and the service (although sometimes slow in the restaurant) never bothered us. We were on holiday so never ones to rush. Even though we never complained about the wait, we were often apologised to. The food is worth waiting for and we enjoyed dining a la carte as opposed to buffet. Enjoyed everything we ate so much. Especially the curries. The rooms and main areas are always clean and tidy. It’s in a great location, 2 minutes walk from the nearest bar, 5 minutes walk from Spinnakers and lots of other bars and restaurants as well as the town centre with shops in under 10 minutes walk. The walk is safe and locals will say morning to you as you pass them. We had the loveliest time and it was totally down to the staff, the food and the location.

1. Star/disaStar. Rate for Soco house St Lucia Moved bedroom 4 times. Rooms damp bedding damp our clean clothes damp which unfortunately made them smell as you can imagine. Service in hotel restaurant was awful unacceptable resulted in walking out on 3 occasions resulted in not eating in the hotel for 5 out of 10 day stay NO BACON. Decided to order just cereals make it easy waited a full hour for cornflakes milk was OFF One off the waitresses was in the toilets at the same time. DID NOT WASH hands on leaving. I reported this to management immediately !! If you eat in there you are losing 4 to 5 hours a day waiting and waiting for your meals The ceiling in the bar came through on one evening The pool furniture is in need of replacing dirty cushion lack of towels Pool needs re tiling We made some lovely friends whilst we were there this made our holiday at the hotel We would not return and would not recommend if it was free You can’t blame the players the MANAGER/s need to take serious responsibility

SoCo House turned out to be the perfect base for our first experience of the Caribbean. It is five minutes walk from a beautiful sandy beach where Sean took a great pride in making sure we had sun beds and umbrellas as part of the deal. The catamaran tour down the coast made a great day out with a visit to the mud baths and a stop for amazing snorkelling, but the views as we cruised down were stunning, and the dancing and music carried on the atmosphere we had enjoyed the night before at the Friday Night Street Party. The water taxi to Pigeon Island made a great day out: a beautiful historic island with magic coves to swim in, and there were bars close by to go out and get a spot of lunch. One day we went to Soufriere by taxi and this took us through less touristy places where we experienced the friendly spirit of the island despite the obvious signs that most people are far from well off. The taxi driver, Patrick, was friendly, reliable and a careful driver, unlike some others on the road! Back in SoCo House we just loved it; the staff were a delight and looked after us wonderfully; as guests we were able to relax and have a great time getting to know other guests: chatting, laughing, and drinking and eating together. Meals were served in a pleasant airy restaurant and were most enjoyable. Now i have to say we were not expecting an ultra efficient fast-food service, because, hey, we were relaxing on holiday in the Caribbean, but at all times the food was fresh, varied and most enjoyable; the service was leisurely but delightful. Leaving the Island and having our passports checked at the airport, the official asked whether we would come back and unhesitatingly we said yes, that we had had a wonderful holiday in a great hotel; her proud smile was characteristic of the warm hospitality that we experienced in the hotel and throughout the island. (I am only sorry that some of our fellow guests, curiously, did not seem to feel the same way.)

I cant believe the recent reviews, we were there the same time as the lady with her daughter, and we certainly did not share her experience. We had a lovely room with everything working correctly, and hot water available at all times. Staff were amazing, friendly and attentive throughout, from Reception, dining room and especially the bar. Food and red wine were great, service may have been slow at times, but food tasted great for all meals. Only time we ate out was when on a trip or at the beach, we enjoyed being served rather than a buffet scrum. We met some great people and had a lot of fun with them. Location of hotel great, minutes from a lovely beach. Would recommend getting the water taxi from the beach to Pigeon Island, definitely worth a visit. Ignore the mean reviews, we would go again. Maybe could do with more sunbeds, but we didn't stay at the pool so didn't bother us, but did others.

Hotel run down. Staff lovely but owners of the resort have not spent a penny on the hotel and it’s old. Pictures look fresh and great. Reception area on arrival was false impression. When we were taken to our room I was shocked. Fridge that didn’t work. No water and was told go and ask at the bar. I had travelled with my Daughter for her 40th birthday. We just wanted to chill with no hubbies or children. After waiting two hours for breakfast we walked out. In a week we used the restaurant three times in total as didn’t need the stress or disappointment. Beach was lovely but beds awful. The staff are lovely and feel embarrassed themselves as they know things are bad. Only saving Grace to our holiday was the great people we met and had fun with. Not a good look when all your guests are tucking into Domino’s or take out curries when they serve food but needs must. We all called it Faulty Towers. I didn’t meet anyone this week who was happy with anything. Some people changed rooms multiple times and some moved over the road. Rooms smell and everything feels damp. Air con hit and miss. Didn’t have hot water once. I didn’t bother complaining to the hotel manager as he seemed to have a queue of guests each day. We all had the same complaints. I feel sorry for the staff to be honest and for the price wasn’t expecting luxury but did expect more than a two star at best. Sorry guys but needs to be said. If everyone there this week tells the truth I can’t see if around much longer

We found the airport at St Lucia very easy and encountered no delays at all. We landed at 3.15pm and were in our private transfer at 3.50pm! I did hear other guests say that they had a 2hr queue at immigration as three planes had landed close together. Maybe worth checking as you can book the Fast Track lane. The transfer is very long and bumpy at times. If you get car sick you will definitely need a tablet for this one! Took 1hr 50 going (busy time) and 1hr 15 returning. Nothing is ever perfect on a holiday and I would agree in part with a lot of other reviewers comments. However I always like to look at the positives and on the whole we had a really good time. The overwhelming strength of this hotel is the staff - new general manager Edmund is a tremendously nice man, forever smiling and eager to listen. I truly believe he wants to improve the hotel and hope he does. His assistant, Cindy, was also thougherly charming and helpful. Any small issues we had were resolved without any fuss by Anika on the front desk. She was fantastic. Bar staff and are on the whole happy and a laugh, led by Charles and the lovely Desma. I thank them for the BBC cocktails! I wonder if hotel management slightly misread the age and wishes of the guests? surely the bar music (and restaurant music) is far too loud? Or is that just me being old & grumpy! Our room was cleaned by Frances and she did a great job, however on the days when she was off things went a little awry but nothing major. Our courtyard room was at the far end on the left and absolutely perfect: away from the bar and noise and 20’ from a cabana and pool. Room layout is a little strange with regards to plug points. If you can pack a small extension lead it may be worth it for hair drying in front of a mirror! Possibly the best thing the hotel do is provide a cool box for the beach (I agree with a previous comment that 10am is late and there is no reason why this couldn’t be brought forward to 9am). It’s a 5 minute stroll to the beach which is considered as one of the best on the island. It really is lovely with no beach shoes required as the sand is perfect and no stones going into the warm water. When you arrive you are looked after by Shawn. What a star he is and he doesn’t even work for Soco House! You wouldn’t know it as he treats the Soco guests brilliantly. I wonder if Soco quite realise what an amazing ambassador he is for the hotel? I said nothing is ever perfect and there are two main issues at Soco - one they are really trying to resolve and the other they don’t seem to care about. So: the food is on the whole excellent, no buffet here and a good and varied menu. We enjoyed the quality and presentation. A couple of meals weren’t to my taste but that’s fine. Wait times however are an issue. Again, a previous review got it spot on: some days it was fine but on others (I think when staff call in sick or the rota is bad) delays can be too long. Most people don’t want a leisurely breakfast.
