If you stay at a Premier Inn bring a toilet brush! I use Premier Inn quite a lot - convenient, comfortable and value for money. Not this time! There seems to have been a change in corporate policy, for the worse. The card that I got when checking in told me that I could get my room made up by informing Reception before 12:00, which I did. Upon my return to the room nothing had been done! Reception then informed me that their head office policy now was for stays longer than one night, rooms would only be made up after 5 days! Fortunately they found some clean towels, replacement tea bags and a toilet brush. Someone from the bar then helped me make up the room and clean the bathroom. Top marks for staff helpfulness but no marks for corporate cleanliness.

Booked for a one night stay in a Premier Plus room, prior to our flight the following day. Check in was painfully slow due to only having one member of staff on the desk, even though there were others milling about and this was at 3pm so the busiest time of day. The staff member really wasn't very friendly or interested in what he was doing, forgot to give us our wifi code and had difficulty booking a meal reservation for our meal deal. The room on the 5th floor was ok, it was freezing cold as the heating wasn't on and they need to pay more attention to detail with the cleaning particularly in the bathroom with the skirting boards. The hairdryer in our room was terrible as you have to have your hand over a touch pad to keep it on which is quite difficult when you have arthritis. The restaurant for our evening meal was absolutely freezing due to being next to reception with no physical barrier to protect us from the front doors constantly opening and closing every time somebody walk past them. The staff wouldn't let anybody sit in the rear area of the restaurant, claiming it was closed off however this was behind a partition wall so would have offered some sort of buffer from the constant draft of the -1 temperature from outside. Everything on the menu seemed to be a variation on chicken goujons and when our food did arrive it was lack lustre delivered with no interest again from the same male who checked us in. We were not asked if we wanted any sauces and he rushed off before I had to chance to ask, and due to there being so few staff I had eaten most of my meal before I could flag somebody down. My husband said his burger was tiny and tasted like the cheap frozen ones you buy from the supermarket. His ice cream sundae was mostly crystallised and not very creamy with no chocolate flakes as was mentioned on the menu so he left most of it. The bed was comfy and the room was quiet. Breakfast was a shambles although we were allowed to sit in the closed off area of the restaurant. The cooked breakfast was cold, the fried eggs rubbery. when i tried to toast some bread I put my slice of bread into one of two industrial toasters to be told “they aren't working this morning”. Not knowing what to do with the slice of bread I had put in there I left it, at which point the staff member took it out and frisbeed it back on to the pile of bread for somebody else to use! We had this same hotel booked for another trip we have coming up but have now cancelled it and will be looking elsewhere.
